Background

Paul Jackson Productions was a production company that was formed in 1981 by Paul Jackson after he left the BBC. It was then absorbed into Noel Gay Television later on, and then he was managing director for Carlton and Carlton UK Productions.

(September 9, 1985-December 19, 1989)

Logo: On a black background, we see the three outlined letters "PJP" zoom out with a blue trail effect. The trail then disappears, leaving a solid blue outline of the "PJP" letters. The word "A PAUL JACKSON PRODUCTION" fades in with a blue flash effect, followed by the words "FOR CHANNEL FOUR", which also fades in with a flash effect.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the logo is shortened.
  • Sometimes, a copyright date is shown below.
  • On Red Dwarf II, the logo is still and "FOR CHANNEL FOUR" was replaced by "FOR BBC NORTH WEST" in a different font.
  • On Red Dwarf III, the logo is on a space background, the logo is still with the trailing behind the text, and again, "FOR CHANNEL FOUR" was replaced by "FOR BBC NORTH WEST" in a different font.

Technique: The trailing of the letters, the flashing.

Music/Sounds: A whoosh sound when the letters zoom out, followed by two beeps when the words appear. On Red Dwarf II, the logo is silent, while on Don't Miss Wax, the end theme plays over.

Availability: Seen on Coming Next..., Just for Laughs, Don't Miss Wax and Red Dwarf II-III.
