Background
This is the vanity card of Richard Appel, a writer and producer for series such as Family Guy, American Dad!, and The Cleveland Show.
1st Logo (February 4-April 1, 2003)
-
Pre-broadcast pilot version
Logo: We see a closeup of a greenish-grey court background merging together into frame, as the stacked serif text "PERSONS UNKNOWN PRODUCTIONS" tilts and settles into frame with a shadow behind. As the background quickly merges, it suddenly turns grey.
Variant: On the pre-broadcast pilot of the series, a different court background is used as it slowly zooms in, and the name is in a different font as it blurs in.
FX/SFX: The merging of the background, the name tilting. On the pre-broadcast pilot variant, the background zooming and the name blurring in.
Music/Sounds: The closing theme. Original NBC airings used a generic theme and a voiceover.
Availability: Seen on A.U.S.A.
Editor's Note: Not as well known as the one below.
2nd Logo (September 27, 2009-May 19, 2013)
Logo: On a black background, there is a spotlight. Inside the spotlight is a detective, with his shadow behind him. The detective is holding a magnifying glass, and part of his face can be seen except his eyes. On the left, there is the text "PERSONS UNKNOWN" in a bold red font, and the text "PRODUCTIONS™" underneath it in a thin, gray font.
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: None.
Availability: Seen on The Cleveland Show.
Editor's Note: The black background combined with the silence and odd logo could scare some people, but overall, it's an interesting concept.
