Background

Pilot is a legendary Moscow-based animation studio founded in 1988. It was the first private studio in the former USSR and became widely known for its series (especially famous Pilot Brothers - Братья Пилоты) even in foreign countries. In 2010 the studio was forced to reduce its work because of the lack of money.

1st logo (1995-December 2, 1998)

Logo: A line appears. Later, the gold script "PiLOT" and "MOSCOW ANIMATION STUDIO" appear above the line in the "turning/refracting prism"/"shadow line" style (a la Amblin Entertainment).

Variant: On "Exhibitionist" (Эксгибиционист) (1995) and "Gone By The Wind" (Унесённые ветром) (1998), the logo (including the line) is white.

FX/SFX: The effect mentioned above.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Extinct. Only seen on some shorts of the period and first 2 Pilots Brothers games.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd logo (2001)

Logo: On a blue background, we see the script "PiLOT" (which differs a bit from the original logo) written on a scratched sheet of paper. "MOSCOW ANIMATION STUDIO" is written below.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availablity: Only seen on Lateks (2001).

Editor's Note: None.

3rd logo (2002-)

Logo: The script "PiLOT" (which is the same as in the first logo) is drawn with the top-right stem of the T extended. The studio's tagline flips in one-by-one below. Since 2009, the tagline wipes in instead.

Variants:

  • Taglines have changed from time to time:
    • "МОСКОВСКАЯ АНИМАЦИОННАЯ СТУДИЯ" (MOSCOW ANIMATION STUDIO) (2002-2003)
    • "БОЛЬШАЯ АНИМАЦИОННАЯ СТУДИЯ" (BIG ANIMATION STUDIO) (2004-2008)
    • "НО Фонд поддержки анимационного кино" ("The Animated Film Support Fund" non-commercial organisation) (2009)
    • "Анимационная студия Александра Татарского" ("The animation studio of Aleksandr Tatarsky") (2009-)
  • On "To South From North" (К югу от севера), the studio tagline is written in English ("MOSCOW ANIMATION STUDIO").

FX/SFX: The drawing.

Music/Sounds: A drum roll.

Availability: Current. Appeared on numerous animations produced by the company (the older animated shorts' current prints mostly have this logo at the beginning) starting with Hush (2002). Also seen on "Поросёнок" (Piglet) series, as still used, because it was the legendary exit from lack of money.
