Background

Platinum Dunes is an American production company created in November 2001 by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. The company specializes in horror film remakes, as well as sequels to remakes and original projects.

On October 7, 2009, Paramount Pictures announced a first-look deal with the company, which planned to branch out into action and thrillers. In 2014, the company was named The Hollywood Reporter's Producers of the Year and again in 2015. In 2018, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form made a split from the company in order to launch Fully Formed Entertainment. In June 2022, Fuller returned to Platinum Dunes, with the company signing an overall first look deal with Universal Pictures.

1st Logo (October 17, 2003-March 6, 2009)

Logo: On a black background, we see several platinum silver lines zooming out and overlapping each other. After a few seconds, the lines fill in with color and reveal themselves to be a drawing of dunes in a desert. As a sky fades in over the dunes, "PLATINUM DUNES", in a Copperplate font, zooms in underneath the picture (compressed in a box) and shines.

Variant: Starting in 2006, the logo freezes after the dunes are formed.

Technique: Decent CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: The opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Common. Made its first appearance on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003 remake) and last appeared on Horsemen.

2nd Logo (January 9, 2009-)

Logo: We see live-action footage of a camera moving across some dunes. As the picture begins to compress into a box, the company name appears from behind the dunes and the action freezes.

Variants:

  • On Friday the 13th (2009), the logo (except the company name) is tinted in a red color.
  • A shortened version exists.
  • Sometimes, the logo is still.
  • On The Expecting, the logo shares the screen with the Dark Castle Entertainment and Propagate Content logos.

Technique: Mostly live-action.

Music/Sounds: Same as before.

Availability: Current. Debuted on The Unborn and has since appeared on all further movies from the company.
