Background

PolyGram K.K, also known as PolyGram Co., Ltd., was established in 1990 as the Japanese branch of PolyGram. In 1992, Polydor Co., Ltd. and Nippon Phonogram were folded into PolyGram K.K. In 1999, after Universal Music Group acquired PolyGram Records, PolyGram Co., Ltd. was renamed to Universal Music Co., Ltd., more popularly known as Universal Music Japan.
