Background

Portman Film & Television (formerly Portman Entertainment) was a television production company that was formed by Victor Glynn in 1984. In 1993, it purchased Zenith Entertainment, only to be split off a year later. In 2006, it was sold to Digital Rights Group, becoming the company's first acquisition.

1st Logo (April 12, 1998-2000)

Logo: On a cream background, we see a "P. The word "Portman" writes over the letter in script, and then the word "ENTERTAINMENT" fades in below the logo.

Variant: A still version exists.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on some television movies, like Rosamunde Plitcher's Coming Home and Nancherrow.

2nd Logo (May 19, 2000-January 5, 2006)

Logo: On a CGI nighttime ocean water (in blue), the letter “P” slowly fades in bluing. A shadow appears behind the “P”. A blue-white light writes out a cursive “Portman” and a line of streaks form the word “ENTERTAINMENT” on the bottom.

Variant: A shortened version exists.

Technique: CGI effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on films like Saving Grace. The short version was seen on old episodes of Doc Martin.

3rd Logo (December 25, 2006-2010)

Logo: On a black background, we see the text "Portman" in a multi-colored font. Above it on the top right is the word "FILM & TELEVISION" in a multi-colored font.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, it shares the screen with other logos.
  • Most of the time, the logo can be seen in a white background box.
  • When this company was bought by Digital Rights Group in 2006, their logo began appearing below the Portman logo with the text "a member of" at the top left of the two logos.
  • When DRG introduced a new logo in 2010, their logo was no longer seen on this logo, but there was a disclaimer below the Portman logo reading "Distributed by Portman Film & Television. A DRG Company".

Technique: None.

Audio: None or the end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on various Portman shows, like Doc Martin, Kingdom and Sea Patrol.
