Background
Rodan Productions was a production company formed in the late 1960s by film and TV producer/director Steve Binder as Steve Binder Productions. It was regrouped in 1983, joining with entrepreneur Claude Ravier and manager Rick Bernstein as The Binder/Ravier Entertainment Co., with BRB Productions (short for the three employees for the company) as its production company. It was renamed further in 1987 to Binder Entertainment and then in 1992 to Rodan Productions.
Steve Binder Productions
(March 2, 1982)
Logo: On a white background, we see sets of segmented lines colored yellow and brown sliding in from the left and right. The lines then shorten, and form the golden letter "S" with the words "Steve Binder Productions" in black with a copyright date below. Two holes appear on the sides of the "S", forming what looks like a side of the "B".
Technique: 2D animation.
Music/Sounds: A majestic triumphant fanfare.
Availability: Seen on An Innocent Love. Don't except to see this on other TV shows or movies, as it simply uses an in-credit notice.
BRB Productions
(May 14, 1984-March 27, 1987)
Logo: On a gray background, a logo materializes from the top down, as if being "drawn" in. It is a series of segmented lines in the form of two "B's" with an "R" as a kind of "hole" between them. The lines are (from top to bottom) shades of red, purple, blue, and green. Diagonal white lines appear above and below the logo, and below the lower line is the word "PRODUCTIONS".
Variants:
- A still version exists where the logo is seen without "PRODUCTIONS", shorter lines, and is placed on a black background shifted upwards.
- An in-credit version of the logo exists with the word "ENTERTAINMENT" instead of "PRODUCTIONS".
Technique: Computer animation.
Music/Sounds: A 6-note synth tune. Some episodes of Zoobilee Zoo had a twinkling sound effect which sounded like the 1986 Walt Disney Television/Buena Vista Television "Rainbow Castle" theme. In other cases, it's silent.
Availability: Seen at the end of Zoobilee Zoo and the 1984 TV special Blondes vs. Brunettes.
Binder Entertainment
(September 19, 1987-1991)
Logo: On a black-blue gradient background, a thick white line wipes onto the screen and twists into an abstract "b". When it's done forming, the words "binder ENTERTAINMENT" with "ENTERTAINMENT" under "binder", fade in below, and the whole logo shines.
Technique: Computer animation.
Music/Sounds: A soft 4-note tune ending with a drone. Sometimes the ending theme of the show playing over it or none.
Availability: Can be seen on seasons 2 and 3 of Pee-Wee's Playhouse, plus its Christmas special. Also seen on Marc Summers' Mystery Magical Special back in the 80s on Nickelodeon and On the Television. Preserved on Jane Fonda's Complete Workout on DVD.
Rodan Productions
(1994-1999)
Logo: On a blue-green gradient marble background, we see the text "R" fading in. Then more letters form and slide, forming the text "Rodan". As the logo was done forming, the text "PRODUCTIONS" fades in below the logo on the bottom right of the text.
Variant: A short version of the logo exists.
Technique: Computer animation.
Music/Sounds: Same as the last logo. Original airings uses a CBS generic theme. Sometimes silent or the end theme of the show.
Availability: Seen on Disney's Greatest Hits, Disney's Reflection on Ice and Disney's Beauty and the Beast: A Concert on Ice, among others.
