Background

Roundtable Film and Video (formerly Roundtable Productions) was a American educational company based in Beverly Hills, California, that lasted from something in the 1950s to sometime in 1990s.

Roundtable Productions

1st (known) Logo (1962?-1970?)

Logo: A giant "R" is seen surrounded by 16 ovals with "A ROUNDTABLE PRODUCTION" overlapping the letter "R". A copyright notice can be seen underneath the circle of ovals. A few seconds later, the ovals start disappearing one by one in a random order.

Variant:

  • A variant without the giant "R" in the middle exists.
  • On some films such as I Just Work Here, this logo (excluding the text) can be seen throughout the credits, whether if it's the opening or closing ones.

FX/SFX: The ovals disappearing.

Music/Sounds: First, the ending music of the film. When that concludes, there is some xylophone noises as the ovals disappear.

Availability: Extinct, Seen on their films from the time.

Editors Note: None.

2nd (known) Logo (1970?-198?)

Logo: The logo starts with "ROUNDTABLE PRODUCTIONS" stacked and in white on a black background, then the colored circles start popping up around the text in a clockwise direction. The text fades out and "presents" fades in.

Variant: The closing variant of this logo is essentially the backwards version of the original except "BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA" is added beneath the company's name and that "ROUNDTABLE" is bigger than "PRODUCTIONS".

FX/SFX: The circles appearing/disappearing.

Music/Sounds: A flute like soundtrack.

Availability: Extinct, Likely seen on films from the time.

Editors Note: None.

Roundtable Film and Video

1st Known Logo (1984?-19??)

Nicknames: "Rainbow Disks"

Logo: Centered on a black background is a leveled circular platform, outlined in a bluish gray. Then one by one, disks of various colors come flying from the top of the screen onto the western portion of the platform (in order: magenta, hot pink, red, scarlet, orange, yellow, lime, chartreuse, green, sea green, teal, cyan, sky blue, blue, indigo, purple). They circle around the center continuously while the platform changes its angle to face the screen. In the center appear the words (in yellow) ROUNDTABLE FILM & VIDEO. The logo then fades out.

Variant: The only footage that exists is filmed, but a videotaped version might exist too.

FX/SFX: The disks flying and circling. Excellent CGI animation for the time.

Music/Sounds: A synth accompanied with a series of whooshes when the disks fly onto the platform, followed by a series of chimes when the text appears. It sounds warped but it's likely from film deterioration.

Availability: Extremely rare, Seen on films from the time.

Editor's Note: The dark background with the animation could bother a few (combined with the warped audio if the logo is filmed), but it's a great logo nonetheless.
