Background

S.S. Productions Limited (shortening of Shabana Sadique Productions Limited) was a Bengali film production and distribution company founded and owned by Afroza Sultana Ratna (known by her stage name as Shabana) on late 1970's, with the first film being Matir Ghar from 1979. Its best known for making the 1990 award-winning film Goriber Bou. S.S. Productions went dormant sometime on the mid-2000's due to Afroza Sultana Ratna retiring from the film industry in 1998 and went to the United States to focus on her family members, which her daughter graduated from Yale and attended Harvard University for her doctoral work. 1st Logo (April 27, 1979)

Visuals: Over a black background is the letter S and another S colliding towards each other. A line appears on the icon, then the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS" appear on the bottom in a typewriter effect.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A male announcer speaking in Bengali, with echoes heard in the background.

Availability: Seen on Matir Ghar: The Last Station.

2nd Logo (February 12, 1983)



Visuals: On a gray background, there is an S moving to the left. Then it cuts to the two S's colliding towards to each other. A heart-like shape appears inside of the icon, then the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS" abruptly appears below the symbol. A thick border slowly appears around the symbol and text before the logo cuts off.

Technique: Motion-controlled animation.

Audio: A loud, warped one-note dramatic theme followed by a bit of a woman singing and a cymbal crash, then a loud rumble, and finally, a loud rock guitar-like fanfare with a quiet nine-note string/flute theme.

Availability: Seen on Nazma.

3rd Logo (Early 1990's-1998)



Visuals: On a black background is the icon from before with four lights shining. It cuts to a white background, where a rectangle rotates 90 degrees to the top, and the second rectangle appears on the left and does the same. Then, a black background takes over the white background. Then, there is a heart-like shape, and it turns big as it turns to a upside-down heart, which beats five times and becomes small. Then, there is the first S, and another S appearing. They move to the heart and the first S flashes as it goes up. Then, there are four black squares appearing rapidly, then the black background is removed. Then, the words "S.S. PRODUCTIONS LTD." appear in red. A spark highlights the text, then the bold words "PRESENT'S" appear in black in a typewriter effect.

Variants:

  • A restored version exists on DVD and Blu-ray prints of the films.
  • A short verison exists on Ondho Bishwas.
  • Varying on its film detorioration, the logo may be color-tinted.
