Background

The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (commonly known as SAG-AFTRA, but stylized as SAG•AFTRA) is an American labor union representing approximately 160,000 film and television actors, journalists, radio personalities, recording artists, singers, voice actors, internet influencers, fashion models, and other media professionals worldwide. The organization was formed on March 30, 2012, following the merger of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG, created in 1933) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA, created in 1937 as the American Federation of Radio Artists, gaining a "T" in 1952 after its merger with the Television Authority). SAG-AFTRA is a member of the AFL-CIO, the largest federation of unions in the United States.

Screen Actors Guild

1st Logo (January 21, 2000-July 3, 2020)

Logo: On a white circle shield with another circle in the middle, we see "SCREEN ACTORS GUILD" arranged in a circle shaped layout matching the shape of the circle, with stars seperating the words. In the middle are two faces connected together looking to the left and right, both happy and sad, respectively.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the movie.

Availability: Rare, though it has become more common to find. First seen on American Psycho and last appeared on The Outpost. Strangely on some 2012-2020 films after they merged to form SAG-AFTRA, the Screen Actors Guild logo is used in place of the SAG-AFTRA logo.

2nd Logo (2005)

Logo: On a background with brown spotlights shining, the bottom of a square zooms out to reveal a peach colored inside, with the same faces from the last logo on the square in orange. Above is the name in a fancy Art Deco-like font in an arc shape. The copyright stamp in white fades in below in an industrial font.

Technique: CGI.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme to the program.

Availability: Spotted on the 2005 SAG Awards. It is unknown if it was seen on any shows, films, specials or other ceremonies from the era.

SAG-AFTRA One Union

(2011-2014, February 5-26, 2016, January 11, 2019, November 6, 2019)

Logo: On a gold square with a black inside, we see "SAG-AFTRA ONE UNION" in a modern font with sharp edges in gold. They are stacked in two rows.

Variants:

  • There is a more common variant in print form.
  • Sometimes, the colors of above variant are inverted.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the movie or none.

Availability: Uncommon. It was seen on movies at the time. It made a surprise appearance on Hail, Caesar!, released in February 5, 2016 and Gods of Egypt, released in February 26, 2016. It reappeared again on The Upside, released in January 11, 2019 and made it's final appearance on Marriage Story, released in November 6, 2019.

SAG-AFTRA

(2014- )

Logo: In the credits, there is an abstract human figure holding one hand up. To the right or below it is "SAG•AFTRA".

Variants:

  • There is an animated variant. The logo is now in gold on a brown or blue background, there is a light emitting from the figure's hand, "SAG•AFTRA" zooms out, and there is a copyright notice in gold in Arial.
  • In The Tiny Chef Show, the logo is smaller and in white. The logo also looks a lot like the animated version than the still version.

Technique: None for the in-credit version. CGI for the animated variant.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the movie/program, a one-note synth tune or none.

Availability: Seen on films such as My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) and US prints of the Czech film Medieval (2022).
