Background

STV Studios is the production arm of the STV Group plc. It was originally founded on August 31, 1957 as Scottish Television Enterprises by Roy Thomson. In 2000, they were reorganised into SMG Productions before being renamed to STV Productions in 2008. The "Scottish Television Enterprises" name was still used on several programmes until 2005. In 2019, the company renamed to its current name. Some of their most well known programmes include Taggart and Take the High Road.

STV Productions

1st Logo (2006-2009)

Visuals: On a white background, the 2006 logo is seen without "stv" inside the larger "s". Rather, said text appears below the letter and is in dark blue while next to "productions". Underneath is the copyright year in dark blue and the byline "part of the stv group plc".

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Seen on Beyond Explanation, There's Been Another Murder, Highlands and Taggart, among other shows produced by STV from the time period until 2009.

2nd Logo (2009-2014)

Visuals: Mainly consists of the text "stv productions". The latter word is in a different font and the "o" in said word has an arrow in it.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the logo is placed on a custom background.
    • On Gràdh a Bhàis, the logo is on a black-dark blue gradient background. A byline was also added, reading "From Scotland to the World".
  • A print version of the 2009 logo with the triangle can be shown in dodger blue colour.
  • On Perez Hilton: Superfan, the logo is colourised with "stv" in dark blue and "productions" in cyan. It is also inside a white box.
  • On All That Lies Behind Me, "productions" is grey.
  • Sometimes, the logo also shares the screen with other logos (including the 2013 ITV logo).

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability:

  • Seen on some original programmes from the company such as Fake Reaction, Gràdh a Bhàis, very early episodes of Catchphrase, and the final few seasons of Taggart.
  • It was also seen at the end of a December 27, 2022 airing of S27E01 of Taggart on UKTV Drama.

3rd Logo (2013-2020)

Visuals: While "Productions" fades in one letter at a time, to the left is "tv" within a metalic triangle pointing right glowing cyan and yellow-green colours. Coming into view and sliding to the right, an "s" slides out of the triangle.

Variants:

  • On backgrounds with high contrast, "tv" is white and "Productions" is black.
  • On Britain's Biggest Warship, the logo is inside a white box.
  • As with the first logo, it sometimes shares the screen with other logos (including the 1997 BBC and 2013 ITV logos).

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Seen on the revival of Catchphrase and the first four seasons of its celebrity series, plus The Victim, as well as many factual programmes like Inside Central Station and Britain's Biggest Warship.

STV Studios

Visuals: A 2D version of the 2014 logo in teal is positioned above "Studios"

    • On season 3 of Inside Central Station, the "s" is just like how it was in the 2014 STV Productions logo.
  • On Elizabeth is Missing, the logo is white.
  • Sometimes, this logo also shares the screen with other logos (including the 1997 BBC and 2013 ITV logos).

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability:

  • Seen on more recent episodes of the celebrity specials of Catchphrase as well as Bridge of Lies, Murder Island, Screw, among several others.
