Background

Sabella Dern Entertainment (also known as SD Entertainment) is an American animation studio founded in 1999 by former MGM Animation employees Paul Sabella and Jonathan Dern. The company is based in Woodland Hills, California. The company is known for producing animated films and TV shows based on properties such as the Care Bears. The company has not been active since the early 2010's, as they have been bought out by Cinedigm.

1st Logo (1998-2002)

Logo: On a black-teal gradient background, we see the word "sd", in a tube-like font with a yellow ball between the two letters. "ENTERTAINMENT" is seen below. The logo glows with a white outline.

Variants:

  • A still "PRODUCED IN ASSOCIATION WITH" variant exists.
  • On Make Way for Noddy, when the logo is after up the Chorion logo.

FX/SFX: The logo glowing.

Music/Sounds: None or opening theme of the show.

Availability: Extremely rare. This was seen on PBS Kids and Sprout airings of Make Way for Noddy. Don't expect it on the UK version, as only the Chorion logo is seen.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (2002-2017)

Logo: On a black background, the wire-frame letters "s" and "d", in the same font as the previous logo, but slightly modified, fly in from both sides from the screen and rest in place as a slime-like substance covers them, turning them into an orange-yellow-red gradient color. A yellow ball shoots up from the bottom of the screen and starts to ricochet off the letters, shaking them a bit. It hops off the upper right corner and lands into the spot made by the letters, causing it to emit a bright flash. It dies down, revealing "SABELLA DERN ENTERTAINMENT" in a thin font, below the logo. The letters shine.

Variants:

  • A more common short version is seen which only shows the shining part.
  • A still version also exists, sometimes with "PRODUCED IN ASSOCIATION WITH" above it.
  • On My Little Pony G3: Dancing in the Cloud, and then goes up the logo is production of the Hasbro logo.
  • On Noddy Saves Christmas, the logo is next to the Chorion logo.

FX/SFX: The letters flying in and getting covered by slime, the ball ricocheting and shining or none. The logo glowing on the early version.

Music/Sounds: A whirl-like sound when the letters fly in and other sounds to the actions. A whoosh is heard when the ball shines and a reversed crystal sound is heard when the logo shines. The short version just has the crystal sound and the still version has the end theme.

Music/Sounds Variant: On My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade, the long version's music is heard over the short version.

Availability: Current. This can be seen on Bob the Builder: Ready, Steady Build!, Transformers: Armada, and Make Way For Noddy. The long version can be seen on Noddy Saves Christmas.

Editor's Note: None.
