Background

The Sega Mark III was a home console that acted as a successor to the SG-1000 featuring enhanced graphics, and it was released on October 20, 1985. Its release was later exported to the North America as the Master System in 1986 and became a success internationally (mostly in Brazil).

(October 20, 1985-1988)

Visuals: On a black background, the text "SEGA MARK III" flashes in, and changes colors.

Variants:

  • A still version exists on a blue background, and the text is in white.
  • Sometimes, the text is all in white.
  • On Monopoly when playing on a Japanese console, the text is thicker.
  • On Rygar, the Sega logo appears below the logo.
  • Sometimes, the background's colors are different.

Technique: 2D sprite animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on many Sega games when you turn on a Japanese Mark III/Master System game console, like Action Fighter, Aleste, Miracle Warriors, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Fantasy Zone, After Burner and Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars, among others.
