Background

The Mega Play is a JAMMA-based arcade board manufactured by Sega with the ability to run Sega Mega Drive games. It was the second attempt by Sega to bring the home console to the arcades, following the Mega-Tech arcade system. Like Mega-Tech hardware, Mega Play hardware saw a release throughout Asia and the PAL regions, but was not released in North America.

(1991-1993)

Logo: Over a black background, a green rectangle is shown taking most of the screen, where the glowing script "MegaPlay" in blue/black is shown near the top. Below the script is the Sega logo. Below the green rectangle, the credit counter and the Sega copyright are shown in white. A black rectangle appears in-between both logos, where the text "INSERT COIN(S)" appears blinking.

Technique: 16-bit animation.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Rare; seen when turning up a Mega Play arcade board. This system was mostly released in Asian, European and other PAL regions.
