Seven Arts International was formed by CanWest in 1999 as a division of Seven Arts Entertainment, serving as its foreign sales and distribution division. In 2000, the company was rebranded as Fireworks Pictures, serving as a division as Fireworks Entertainment. In 2002, the company became independent alongside the main unit.
