Background

Star Originals is the production arm of Disney+'s international entertainment service, Star. Star was established as a Hong Kong-based satellite broadcasting service in 1991 with stations both in China and India, acquired by former 20th Century Studios owners News Corporation in 1993, and later by The Walt Disney Company as part of its acquisition of 21st Century Fox on March 20, 2019.

On August 5, 2020, it was announced by Disney CEO Bob Chapek that Star was to be reinvented as an international entertainment service, replacing former plans to bring another streaming service owned by Disney, Hulu, outside of the United States and Japan. Star launched as part of the Disney+ service on February 23, 2021 in Canada, the United Kingdom, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, along with Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong later that year and South Africa on May 18, 2022, followed by eastern Europe and the Middle East later that year. Star's programming mainly includes adult-oriented movies and shows.

1st Logo (February 23, 2021-)

Visuals: On a purple multi-tiered background is the corporate Star TV logo (Star TV's 2011 star symbol; a five-pointed star filled with a pink-orange gradient and a thin semi-circle shaped slice cut out from the bottom-left). The right tier slides over the star from the right as the screen zooms out. At the same time, the left tier moves right. The full logo is revealed, consisting of white text reading "STAR", as the star from before takes place of the "A". The text "ORIGINAL" (or "ORIGINAL PRODUCTION") can be seen below in a thinner spaced-out font. A diagonal line splits the screen roughly in half, going across the star.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An ethereal synth note that almost sounds as if it's being played in reverse, followed by a snapping sound when the full logo is revealed, leaving a slight echo as the synth note abruptly stops.

Availability: Seen on content distributed internationally on Star such as Love, Victor, Synduality Noir and War of the Worlds.

2nd Logo (July 13, 2023-)

Visuals: On a black background with a dark purple surface, five deep pink-orange gradient light beams shoot out of the ground. When the camera angle changes to a direct shot of the ground, it is revealed to be a pentagonal hole, made up of five triangular doors, opening up. A side view of the sequence is shown before going back to a direct and rotating shot, where deep pink star-shaped lights burst out and a set of deep pink-orange gradient outlines morphing from a star from the centre to a pentagon from the outside. The outlines merge together while the screen zooms out, revealing a wide shot of the dark purple tunnel before a purple light sparks, becoming the star symbol from before. The letters "STR" fade and slide in, creating "ST★R", and "ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS" appear below in the same formation sequence.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Electronic whooshes start the audio sequence while an ethereal string ambience track plays until the formation of the star. Stuttering can be heard as the star copies burst out of the hole and the soundtrack concludes with the snap sound effect from before when the star forms.

Availability: The logo debuted on Perdida and later appeared on Não Tem Volta.
