Background

Star Trek is an American science fiction media franchise created by Gene Roddenberry, and currently owned by Paramount Global, which began with the 1960s series of the same name (later rebranded as The Original Series) which debuted in the U.S. on September 8, 1966, and aired for three seasons on NBC. It was first broadcast on September 6, 1966, on Canada's CTV network.

Bumper (May 5, 2022-)

Visuals: Against a cloudy starfield, a ship is seen entering warp speed as a colourful trail forms behind it. The ship is seen from multiple angles as it continues at warp speed, eventually cutting to a wide shot to reveal that the trail left by the ship has traced the familiar Starfleet symbol which turns metallic as the Star Trek logo appears over it.

Variants:

A different variant is used for each show:
- Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The USS Enterprise is the ship in the animation.
- Star Trek: Picard (Season 3): The USS Titan-A is used.
- Star Trek: Picard ("The Last Generation"): The Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation replaces the Titan-A for this episode only.
- Star Trek: Lower Decks (Post-Season 3): The USS Cerritos is used in this variant. Additionally, the Great Koala, a frequently referenced being in this show, is briefly seen in the cloud background.
- Star Trek: Very Short Treks: The intro is animated in the style of Star Trek: The Animated Series, the Enterprise as seen on the aforementioned show draws the rainbow trail.
- Star Trek: Discovery (Season 5): The USS Discovery is used in this variant, appearing via it's spore drive instead of flying into frame.
A shortened version exists.
- Star Trek: Prodigy (Post-Season 2): The Voyager-A is used in this variant.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A rousing fanfare culminating in a brief snippet of Alexander Courage's Star Trek theme.

Audio Variants:

On the Star Trek: Picard episode "The Last Generation", the tense opening score replaces the usual fanfare.
For Star Trek: Very Short Treks, the fanfare is given an aged film effect to match the Star Trek: The Animated Series aesthetic.
On CBS airings of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the fanfare is abridged and the female voiceover says "CBS presents, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds!".

Availability: It made its debut on the eponymous pilot episode of Strange New Worlds and has since appeared on all episodes of said show, as well as season 3 of Star Trek: Picard, all post-Season 3 episodes of Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Very Short Treks.
