Background

Stoopid Monkey is the vanity card of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, creators of the Robot Chicken stop-motion animated series. The company was formed in 2005. In 2011, Stoopid Monkey became a partnership of Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.

1st Logo (February 20, 2005-December 6, 2009)

Visuals: Every episode of Robot Chicken displays one of many still Stoopid (spelled Stoop!d) Monkey production logos following the credits; each depicts a cartoon monkey performing a foolish and/or life threatening activity (or the aftermath of one). All of them have the text "sTOoP!d MoNkEy" in a jumbled white font surrounded by a thick black border, as well as a smaller white border around that.

Variants:

  • Later Robot Chicken episodes have the monkey drawn differently. The monkey now has sharp teeth as well as chest fur.

Technique: Traditional ink and paint, with the backgrounds being animated in season 2. All the logos are drawn by artist/actor Adam Talbott. His initials appear in some of the variants.

Audio: The monkey making noise followed by the voice of an irritated Seth Green saying "Stupid monkey!".

Audio Variant: Earlier Robot Chicken episodes like "Junk in the Trunk" use a slightly different, better-quality recording of Seth Green's voice; it can also only be heard from the right speaker.

Availability: Seen on the first four seasons of Robot Chicken.

Legacy: Consider this logo nostalgic, it is a favourite logo for those who watch Robot Chicken on Adult Swim.

2nd Logo (September 27, 2009-March 6, 2011)

Visuals: On a teal background is the monkey, but redrawn, only showing its head, in silver and the name "STOOP!D MONKEY" (the Os in "STOOP!D" are connected, similar to the infinity symbol) below in a custom font. Everything shines.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: The mono/muffled version of the audio from the last logo.

Availability: Seen on Titan Maximum and early episodes of the fifth season of Robot Chicken, including the special Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III.

3rd Logo (October 23, 2011-)

Visuals: Same concept as the first logo, but the monkey is redrawn to look cuter (like the previous logo) and the text's bars for the "E" this time. Sometimes, the copyright stamp appears below the Stoopid Monkey logo.

Trivia: The monkey's design is also used for Stoopid Buddy Stoodios' web series, entitled The Stoopid Monkey Show; in which the monkey's name was Stoopid (or simply Stoop). His two friends are named Biggie and QT.

Variants:

  • On the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special, there is a van riding with QT dressed as Wonder Woman, and the one driving was Biggie, dressed as Batman. On the top of the van is the monkey dressed as Superman, acting like he's flying. Beside is the flashlight, that shows the light with the connected "OO" (a la the Batman flashlight).
  • On SuperMansion (as well as the 2012 Robot Chicken episode "Poisoned by Relatives"), a single variant is used, where the monkey is at a job fair, dressed like Superman from the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special variant and at his own booth searching for super heroes. The text is in an orange gradient with a black outline and situated to the bottom right.
  • On season 8 episodes of Robot Chicken, the monkey is doing foolish activity again (like the 1st logo). Biggie and QT are absent.
  • On current episodes of Robot Chicken (season 9 onwards), it has a gradient background. As a result, the logo's outline is no longer used.

Technique: Digital ink and paint.

Audio: Same as above. However, if you listen closely, Robot Chicken's eighth season onwards still have a bit of the last part of the show's season 7 episode "The Robot Chicken Lots of Holidays (But Don't Worry Christmas is Still in There Too So Pull the Stick Out of Your A*s Fox News) Special".

Audio Variants:

  • On the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special, the monkey's noise is delayed and the audio cuts off before Seth Green's voice is heard.
  • On the Robot Chicken episode "Freshly Baked: The Robot Chicken Santa Claus Pot Cookie Freakout Special: Special Edition", the ending theme plays over it.

Availability: Seen on later episodes of the fifth season of Robot Chicken as well as the show's sixth season, and the final four seasons. Also seen on SuperMansion and a 2014 animatic of the Robot Chicken episode "The Robot Chicken B**ch Pudding Special" (which can be found on John Martinez's Vimeo account that was uploaded on January 9, 2018).

4th Logo (December 16, 2013-December 7, 2014)

Visuals: The typeface of the two previous Stoopid Monkey logos is shown on a red background. It is colored yellow and is focused on with a spotlight.

Variants:

  • On the Robot Chicken Born Again Virgin Christmas Special, the logo is colored in red and the background is green. Santa's hat is placed on top of the "S".
  • On the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special 2: Villains in Paradise, the logo is colored in red and the background is a pink sunburst.

Technique: A digital graphic.

Audio: Same as above, although on the Robot Chicken episode "Catdog on a Stick", Yasmin (voiced by AnnaSophia Robb) is heard screaming, continuing from the end of the final skit of the episode.

Availability: Seen on the seventh season of Robot Chicken, alongside the specials Robot Chicken Born Again Virgin Christmas Special and Robot Chicken DC Comics Special 2: Villains in Paradise.
