Background
Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. is a prominent American publisher and developer of games, founded in 1993. They later acquired GameTek in 1997 and BMG Interactive in 1998, folding their publishing assets into the newly-created label Rockstar Games. Since 2005, the name Take-Two has been dropped from publishing and replaced with the 2K Games brand.
1st Logo (February 11, 1994-March 12, 1996)
Visuals: On a white background, there are the words "TAKE 2", with a clapperboard under the number. Below are the words "INTERACTIVE SOFTWARE".
Variants:
- On the CD version of Bureau 13 and Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller, the clapperboard is seen clapping.
- On Star Crusader, the background is black and the logo shares the screen with the GameTek logo.
Technique: A still, digital graphic.
Audio: None.
Audio Variant: On the CD version of Bureau 13 and Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller, the sound of clapperboard clapping.
Availability: Seen on Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller, Bureau 13, Millennia, Maximum Roadkill and the black variant on Star Crusader.
2nd Logo (October 4, 1994)
Visuals: Two skeletal hands hold a clapperboard with the company name written on it, move and clap it. Then the background under the name is painted purple. The intro follows.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: The sound of clapperboard clapping.
Audio Variant: On the demo of the game, none.
Availability: Seen during the intro of Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller.
3rd Logo (March 6, 1996)
Visuals: Several movie scenes are seen though the moving letters of the name. Then a closed gray clapperboard zooms in with the name, similar to the first logo, written on it.
Technique: A combo of live-action and CGI.
Audio: A movie-styled soundtrack.
Availability: Only seen on Ripper.
4th Logo (July 26, 1996-July 1, 1999)
Visuals: On a black background, there is a flash of gold light from the bottom with water below, slowly revealing the logo similar to above (only with no clapperboard). After the logo is in place, the water fades out and the "TM" trademark symbol flashes in.
Variants:
- On Space Station Silicon Valley, the logo is 3D and zooms out.
- On Biosys, a copyright notice is seen below.
- A short version exists.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A dramatic entry with humming and a single drumbeat.
Availability: Seen on Biosys, Dark Colony, the original Grand Theft Auto, and Alexi Lalas International Soccer. Also appears on Iron and Blood: Warriors of Ravenloft. The short version can be seen on Monkey Hero.
5th Logo (August 6, 1999-January 21, 2005)
Visuals: There is a "T" with a square "2" inside it. The name below reads like this: "TAKE2interactive".
Variants:
- Some games have a still version of the logo.
- A early version has the name written in two lines mostly on a black background.
- On Action Bass, the logo fades in from white and the "T" is gold.
- Another version, seen on Rune for PS2, shows the logo animated, in which the logo is created from a green electronic grid.
Technique: A still, digital card.
Audio: None. On a few games, there is a gunshot.
Availability: Seen on Flying Heroes and Loco Commotion, among others. The white BG logo was spotted on Stronghold. The gunshot version can be seen on Railroad Tycoon, Action Bass (with the early logo) and Ball Breakers for PlayStation. The early logo can also be found on Grudge Warriors.
6th Logo (July 9, 2001-May 3, 2002)
Visuals: Various bubbles and planks fly to the white screen and form the logo - a capital "T" letter with an angular "2" attached to its center. The name "TAKE2interactive" is written in one line. The picture is then captured into frame.
Variant: On Carrera Grand Prix, the camera moves to the logo over a racing field. The name is written on a banner board, and the letter lies on the road, then rises up. The action is seen through the frame.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A short knocking-tune entry.
Availability: Seen on Saltwater Sportfishing and Big Bass Fishing for PS. The still version appeared on Motocross Mania and City Crisis.
7th Logo (March 24, 2005-April 13, 2006)
Visuals: Blue glass walls move around and form multiple "T"'s and "2"'s. They fold and become the logo with "T2" colored in blue and white. The name "TAKE TWO INTERACTIVE" is created below by a flash.
Trivia: This logo is based off the last Global Star Software logo from 2003 until it became 2K Play in late 2007.
Variant: A still version exists.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A crystallized soundtrack.
Availability: It was seen on Sacred and Emergency 4. The still version was spotted on the European release of DT Racer for PS2. Take-Two doesn't use their name in game publishing anymore, preferring to engage their more recognizable pocket labels Rockstar and 2K Games.
