Background

The 100 Mega Shock! was a brand used on Neo Geo games from the early to mid 1990s that were over 100 megabytes in size.

(1992-1995)

Logo: Over a white background, a black "100" appears by moving, with the "0"'s holes being half-octagons that have the faces of the Neo Geo logo in yellow and in blue in each; above the "0"'s there are five sharp triangles above them. Below there's the text "THE 100 MEGA SHOCK!". The logo rams into the left of the screen, before squishing and moving back into the center.

Variants:

  • On 3 Count Bout (also known as Fire Suplex in Japan), the logo emerges from square fragments which meet together as the logo is revealed to be rotating around.
  • On Top Hunter, the Neo Geo ball logo quickly falls down as it squishes and expands into the 100 Mega Shock logo.
  • On Super Sidekicks 2 (also known in Japan as Tokuten Ou 2), there are two variants used for both of the game's intros. In the first one, the numbers of the "100" come out from above and bouncing, and then the "THE 100 MEGA SHOCK!" text slides in. On the second variant, each element of the 100 rams in one-by-one, and then the "THE 100 MEGA SHOCK!" text moves up, colliding with the "100".
  • On Aggressors of Dark Kombat (also known in Japan as Tsukai Gan Gan Koshinkyoku), the logo emerges from square fragments that appear at different positions of the screen. The logo then wipes out.
  • On Super Sidekicks 3 (Tokuten Ou 3 in Japan), the screen changes to white as a soccer ball zooms into the screen during the intro. Then the same soccer ball appears from the right before the logo comes in quickly, throwing out the ball.

Technique: 2D sprite animation.

Music/Sounds: A rising chime synthesizer. Sometimes a timpani hit is also heard.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • World Heroes 2 features the opening theme of the game.
  • On 3 Count Bout/Fire Suplex, a loud, pitch-bent whoosh is heard, before ending with a crystalized synth note.
  • On Fight Fever, only the timpani hit is heard.
  • World Heroes 2 Jet has no sound on the logo.
  • On the second Super Sidekicks 2 variant, a smack sound is heard before the chime sound plays.
  • On the Super Sidekicks 3, the sounds of crowd cheering is heard before the timpani hit and chime plays.

Availability: Rare. It was only seen on 9 games for the Neo-Geo, including those from the variants mentioned. The standard variant appears on Fatal Fury 2.
