Background

Thomas Pictures was an Indian film company founded by P.A. Thomas, an Indian film director, scriptwriter, theater artist, and actor in Malayalam movies.

1st Logo (December 22, 1964-July 24, 1970)

Visuals: Over a sky background, there is a silhouette of a man about to throw a spear. The stool on which the man is standing rotates, and the man throws his spear once the rotation is complete. At the same time, "THOMAS PICTURES" wipes in below the silhouette from left to right.

Technique: Live-action for the silhouette, and cel animation for the text.

Audio: There are three music versions:

  • A rising bombastic orchestral fanfare.
  • A deep, ominous rising vibraphone tune, as well as 2 cymbal crashes at the start and end of the logo.
  • A trumpet solo with ascending vibraphone glissandos and a cymbal crash when the text appears.

Availability: Appears on Kudumbini, Bhoomiyile Malakha, Kayamkulam Kochunni and Thalaivan.

2nd Logo (July 19, 1975-December 2, 1983)

Visuals: The logo starts with a closeup of an Earth model in the country of India. The camera zooms out to reveal the globe against a white flower sculpture in a room with various sculptures and pillars surrounding it against a painted sky background. A boy with a spear emerges from behind and climbs to the top of the globe as the camera is still zooming, aims his spear, and then throws it at the right side. After he throws it, the camera slowly zooms back toward the globe in the same position as before, where "THOMAS PICTURES" wipes in from left to right at the center of the globe once it stops zooming.

Variant: Thomasleeha has the company name reading "THOMAS FAMILY TRUST".

Technique: Live action with cel animation.

Audio: 2 dramatic brass stings, followed by a few swarmandal flourishes, which concludes by a slow, bombastic trumpet fanfare.

Availability: Appears on the aforementioned Thomasleeha and Nizhal Moodiya Nirangal.
