Background

Universal Content Productions is the cable/streaming division of Universal Television that was founded in July 2008 to create content for cable networks like USA Network and Syfy. Prior to 2019, the company was known as Universal Cable Productions.

Universal Cable Productions

(November 28, 2008-April 10, 2019)

Logo: On a blue background, a white circle is seen that splits itself into three, glittering and shining as it does so. The letters "U", "C" and "P" are inside each of the three circles. As they zoom back and shine, "UNIVERSAL CABLE PRODUCTIONS" appears below the logo.

Variants:

  • From 2009, a different variant is used. The circles are bigger and white and the letters are now in a cut-out style. The byline "A Division of NBC Universal" appears on the bottom. Everything is centered instead of left aligned.
  • There is also a warp-speed variant.
  • Some shows have "Worldwide Sales and Distribution" appear on top of the UCP logo.
  • On the first season of Satisfaction (the U.S. TV series), the logo is seen on the bottom with the Sony Pictures Television logo on the top.

Technique: Computer animation effects.

Music/Sounds: Originally none. Later on, a sweet guitar theme with wind noises was introduced. The ending theme of the show may also be heard.

Music/Sounds Variant: The season 9 premiere of Law & Order: Criminal Intent has the first version with the Universal Media Studios music.

Availability: Common.

  • It's known to exist on shows that were originally produced by Universal Media Studios for cable networks which are Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Monk, Battlestar Galatica, Psych, Eureka and In Plain Sight.
  • This logo also appeared on its former shows that they produced from 2008 until in renaming in 2019 such as Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce, 12 Monkeys, Mr. Robot, Happy!, Dirty John, The Purge, seasons 1-4 of The Magicians, Satisfaction, Colony, Suits, Falling Water, Shooter, The Umbrella Academy, Queen of the South, HarmonQuest and Channel Zero, among others.
  • When the show above was shown on Amazon Prime Video in other countries this logo and the Anonymous Content logo was removed due to time.
  • The "Worldwide Sales and Distribution" variant is seen on international prints of season 4 of the U.S. adaptation of Being Human and Killjoys.
  • This strangely doesn't appear on Syfy's original movie Red Faction: Origins despite them producing it.

Universal Content Productions

(March 20, 2019-)

Logo: On a black background, we see a globe rising (ala the 1997 and 2012 Universal Pictures logos but mirrored). Then the globe zooms out and turns into a circle. Then the words "UCP" in a stencil-like font wipe in with the circle standing next to the top half of the "C", and a gray spotlight fades in. As it zooms out, the words "UNIVERSAL CONTENT PRODUCTIONS" fade in below the logo.

Variants:

  • A more common short version exists. The text just wipes in, and the company name only fades in, as the gray spotlight only appears.
  • A still version of this logo exists.

Technique: Simple CGI by Loyalkaspar.

Music/Sounds: Two deep notes with a cymbal sound, then the first three notes of the 1997/2012 Universal Pictures logos played by a violin (the third being a plucked note), ending in a hit and a bass is heard. Composed by Kick Music.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • The short version has the music in warp-speed.
  • A shortened version of the music exists.
  • On The Umbrella Academy episode "Right Back Where We Started", the Universal Cable Productions theme plays over this logo.
  • Sometimes, it's silent or has the closing theme of the show.
  • Original NBC airings of the 2022 Quantum Leap reboot use a generic theme.

Availability: Current.

  • First seen on The Act on Hulu, then it was later seen on new seasons of ex-Universal Cable productions, which are The Magicians, The Sinner, the final seasons of Suits and Mr. Robot (with the latter show's spin-off Pearson), HarmonQuest, The Umbrella Academy, Happy!, The Purge, season 4 of both Queen to the South and The Magicians.
  • As before with the Universal Cable Productions logo when the former was shown on Amazon Prime Video in other countries this along with the Anonymous Content logo was removed due to time.
  • It is more recently seen on new shows that they produced such as Treadstone, the 2021 sequel series of Punky Brewster, Chucky, Queer as Folk, Gaslit, The Girl from Plainville, Candy, Resident Alien, The End is Nye, and the 2022 reboot of Quantum Leap, among others.
