Background

Following MCA's renaming to Universal Studios by Seagram's, MCA TV renamed itself to Universal Television Enterprises, and acquired all of the assets from Multimedia Entertainment, which Universal bought out in 1996, including The Jerry Springer Show. On October 20, 1997, Universal announced it would sell USA Network, Sci-Fi Channel, Universal Television and the rights to the 1929-1949 Paramount Pictures sound feature film library to HSN Inc. (a company owned by Barry Diller) for $4.075 billion, who renamed it to Studios USA Television LLC. The deal was closed in 1998.

1st Logo (placeholder logo) (January-September 1997)

Visuals: There is the finished product of the 1990-1997 Universal Pictures logo, with the globe still rotating, but the MCA byline is absent.

Variant:

A German version of the logo, where the globe is oriented towards Europe and Africa, and the texts "Eine Produktion von" and "und das redaktionsbüro" exists.
- A similar variant to the German one which was used in the Netherlands also exists, with "Een produktie van" on top of the logo.

Technique: Models filmed with motion control.

Audio: A majestic seven-note French horn fanfare, based on Universal's long version of its 1990 jingle. Composed and conducted by James Horner.

Audio variants: On Escape from Atlantis, the logo is silent.

Availability: It was a placeholder.

Seen on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess.
It was also seen on the 2nd half of season 14-early 1st half season 15 taped episodes of Sally Jessy Raphael and 2nd half season 6-early 1st half season 7 taped episodes of Jerry Springer, replacing the 1994 Multimedia Entertainment logo on Nosey TV.
A Polish airing of the 1993 TV movie Torch Song also has this plastering over the Multimedia Motion Pictures logo.
It was also seen on episodes of the UK talk show Vanessa from 1997 to 1998.
The rare German and Dutch variant were seen on adaptations of the talk show Trisha and Vera Am Mittag, which aired on SAT1 and Catherine, which aired on RTL4.
This logo was also seen after the credits on the original airings of the 1997 telefilms, such as Any Place but Home, Buried Alive II, Divided by Hate, Escape from Atlantis and Our Mother's Murder (aka Daughters).
This logo can also be seen on episodes of The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends on MeTV Toons.

2nd Logo (September 1997-1998)

Visuals: There is the finished product of the 1997-2012 Universal Pictures logo, with the globe still rotating and the glow shining. Below the globe, the text "UNIVERSAL TELEVISION ENTERPRISES, INC. EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTOR" (in gold, written in two lines) fades in. Like the movie logo, a small copyright: "©1997 Universal City Studios, Inc." appears at the bottom-right in the Gill Sans typeface.

Variant: A longer version of the logo also exists, starting out with the "UNIVERSAL" name making its way to the front of the globe, and the name appears below the logo after it before the logo finally zooms back to its position before the copyright appears.

Technique: CGI by Picturemill.

Audio: A short version of the movie counterpart's theme composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith, only this time, the French horn theme plays alone, and the two percussion hits are played by the orchestra.

Audio Variant: For the longer version, the fanfare is extended.

Availability:

The longer version of the Universal Television Enterprises logo was seen on some later episodes of Jerry Springer and Sally Jessy Raphael during the 1997-1998 season.
The standard version is retained on season 4 on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys when seen on The Hub (later Hub Network, now Discovery Family) and on DVD, season 3 of Xena: Warrior Princess on DVD, and Team Knight Rider on Hulu.
