Background
Unreal Engine is a game engine developed by Epic Games, originally created for the 1998 PC first-person shooter game, Unreal. It has since become a popular tool used by many game developers today. The animated logo was first presented for the release of Unreal Engine 3.
1st Logo (2005-2011)
Visuals: The logo starts on a very complicated red rectangular space, where several transparent details join and create the box with the Unreal logo inside. The name is written on the lower section of the box, with "TECHNOLOGY" below that and "POWERED BY" appears above the box. Golden sparks emerge from the box and run over the background, then return back.
Variant: A still logo exists. They use either a black or white background. A widescreen version exists.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A technical composition of whooshing and electronic clanks, with two notable hissing sounds when the electronic sparks leave the box and return. None for the still logo.
Availability: First used on a demo presentation of RoboHordes, later renamed RoboBlitz, and was seen on a lot of games.
2nd Logo (2010-)
Visuals: The logo starts on a black background, when the giant bright U letter comes and zooms into concentrical red circles, which zoom out and beyond. The letter is joined by the usual white circle, which turns red. The words appear to be the same, but without the box. When it finishes, the logo shows some noise and vanishes.
Variants:
- On Kinect Adventures, the logo is stitched on fabric, based on the previous logo, without the borders.
- A still version exists.
- As of 2013, the blades of the circle are removed and "ENGINE" replaces "TECHNOLOGY". In this version, the white circle quickly spins before a red spiral is shown, as the giant bright U letter appears, as the text wipes in from down to up and up to down, respectively, before fading out.
Technique: CGI. Otherwise, it's a still, digital graphic.
Audio: A single technical whoosh.
Availability: First seen on Bulletstorm.
3rd Logo (May 26, 2017-August 13, 2019)
Visuals: Against a dark steel blue tiled kaleidoscope background, "POWERED BY", in white, zooms out to the top from the bottom. A gold ringed border slowly zooms out and spins to place itself below said text. Then, the "u4" symbol from before appears within the border through a counterclockwise radial effect. "UNREAL ENGINE" pops in word by word.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: An exciting, synthesized horn fanfare.
Availability: The logo is seen on Friday the 13th: The Game.
