Sockpuppet problem notice:

Hello CooleyBoy10,

I am writing this to you tell you that I have been noticing that you've been having some sort of sockpuppeting trouble with a user who calls themselves Jackson. Would you like a Steward to perform a CheckUser on accounts relating to Jackson? I sent a report about this issue to the #cvt channel via Discord and hopefully either Dmehus or Void could fulfill this in hopes of stopping his sockpuppeting behavior. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 20:22, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

CooleyBoy10 I was going to reach out to you about the above actually, but I do need some context on the original block for the originally blocked user, so I can investigate whether user accounts policy is likely to have been breached. Would you mind providing me that context on the original block reason and the originally blocked user? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 20:25, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
Oh wow, I wasn't expecting this....yes, that would be greatly appreciated!
So, if I remember right, the user was originally given a temporary block, because he was adding unnecessary edits to certain pages and causing edit wars as a result. So then he tried making a sockpuppet account (literally named "Jackson Reverts") to evade that temporary block--which turned it permanent.
Now he's been running along repeatedly making socks to try and continue his behavior. I'm gonna try and make a list of all his socks, hold on. CooleyBoy10 (talk) 20:51, 17 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

He's pretty easy to spot, because he continually makes edits to the same few pages (Kari's Logo Here and one user's to-do list being two of them). CooleyBoy10 (talk) 20:53, 17 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
CooleyBoy10 Okay, thanks. I'll take a look. Was Jackson's World originally warned somewhere as to which rules were being violated? If so, please link that as well. If not, then I'd be inclined to lock only the sockpuppet accounts and advise the user how to properly appeal their original block. Would that be acceptable? Dmehus (talk) 21:09, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
I don't recall ever warning him--IIRC I was probably going to the second time he did it on Jackson's World. He actually went and then made a separate account for reverting edits immediately afterwards, which was the last straw. That was when the edit-warring started--and given he made a sockpuppet with a clearly malicious intent, that was when I banned him.
So, no, I don't think he was ever actually warned firsthand, but while is an acceptable compromise...I think the maliciousness of his first sockpuppet outweighs that idea in this case. CooleyBoy10 (talk) 21:22, 17 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
CooleyBoy10 okay, thanks for the response. I'll look into this a bit further and reach out to other Stewards for input on the best course of action. Dmehus (talk) 21:28, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
You're welcome, and thank you too! CooleyBoy10 (talk) 23:50, 17 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We've been waiting for quite awhile. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 16:17, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: You think Void could have his take on this? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 17:34, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
DarkMatterMan4500 I'm looking into it, and will discuss with Void and other Stewards in due course. Please do not keep asking about the status every few hours. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 17:41, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay, sorry about that. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 17:42, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
CooleyBoy10 Apologies for the delay in following up with this, but I'm going to investigate potential abuse of user accounts policy; however, because of the lack of a talk page warning on the noted original account as to what local policies the user was violating that to their block, I'd be inclined to leave the noted original account unlocked and just lock any sockpuppet accounts, as applicable; however, I would like to be able to direct the user to their local wiki user talk page where they can properly appeal their block. Would you be able to restore that user's talk page access? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 21:36, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I just had a look at the user list and it turns out Jackson’s world isn’t the original account. User:Jackson Lumby was registered back in November Hb1290 (talk) 22:24, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
Hb1290 Ah, thanks. Not sure if they still have access to that account, though, so may want to leave both user talk pages open. Dmehus (talk) 22:34, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
I doubt he has access, given he continually makes sockpuppets under somewhat different names. Wouldn't shock me if he used dummy emails and passwords for spamming a la Duc4Wikifoundry. CooleyBoy10 (talk) 01:29, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
CooleyBoy Even still, would you mind restoring talk page access on Jackson Lumby and Jackson's World? Little harm in doing so. If he vandalizes his talk page, then we know he has access, and clearly isn't here to constructively appeal their local block, and talk page access can be re-revoked and the final accounts locked. Dmehus (talk) 22:41, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
Sure. CooleyBoy10 (talk) 00:01, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
CooleyBoy10 Thanks. That's great. I'll take a look at the potential abuse of user accounts policy and, if and as appropriate, implement measures to guide the user back to their original account(s). Dmehus (talk) 00:09, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
CooleyBoy10 Twelve sockpuppet accounts locked. I've left Jackson's World and Jackson Lumby unlocked, and guided the user to login and appeal their block(s) locally on their user talk page if they wish to edit constructively here, following your wiki's style guidelines. While they should not be able to now, please do let me know if they opt to create other additional sockpuppets instead. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 00:30, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── @Jackson Is Here Again: You shouldn't be evading your blocks like that. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 00:40, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Question:

What makes you think that Home at School is a sockpuppet of Jackson's World? I'll pass this over to either Void, John or Dmehus if necessary. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 20:40, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

The three-word/random word-salad name (a la "Logo Are Fun", "Enter the New Style"), and the account specifically editing TV vanity card pages. CooleyBoy10 (talk) 20:46, 14 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
CooleyBoy10 Thanks for letting me know that. I have reported the suspected sock directly to Miraheze's Discord server via the #cvt channel. Hopefully either Void, or Dmehus will have a look at it soon. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 20:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
I mean, most of this wiki's content pages are TV vanity card pages, and the username alone wouldn't really amount to much. From my perspective, I don't see a need for further action from stewards here. Dmehus (talk) 21:03, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus It's good that I asked, right? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 21:07, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
It's never a problem to ask, yeah. Dmehus (talk) 21:11, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
You are right, it's just that he tends to usually edit the same few obscure pages over and over again. Both of the pages Home at School edited were previously repeatedly edited by Jackson in the past. CooleyBoy10 (talk) 01:48, 15 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bad sockpuppet problem

CooleyBoy10, I have bad news for you right now, AR99 is created an sockpuppet account called "BEN10NYSON10". Can you please block the two users? Thank you. Links: https://closinglogosgroup.miraheze.org/wiki/User:AR99 https://closinglogosgroup.miraheze.org/wiki/User:BEN10NYSON10 --Prodigy012 (talk) 17:01, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Can you explain to me how the two accounts are related? CooleyBoy10 (talk) 20:14, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Another bad sockpuppet problem right now, is Sebgamer clgrulz is created 2 sockpuppet accounts. Can you please block the three users? Thank you. Links: https://closinglogosgroup.miraheze.org/wiki/User:Sebgamer_clgrulz https://closinglogosgroup.miraheze.org/wiki/User:Sebgamer_clgrulz2021 https://closinglogosgroup.miraheze.org/wiki/User:Sebgamer_clgrulz20xx --Prodigy012 (talk) 17:19, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
I blocked those, but again, can you explain to me how AR99 and BEN10NYSON are related? CooleyBoy10 (talk) 22:25, 21 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, AR99 was a bad user back in last month, but now he's a good user and not a sockpuppet anymore as of right now. I apologies for that. --Prodigy012 (talk) 17:38, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
Yet another bad sockpuppet problem as of right now, is ClaytonAndDonaldDuckYesSquidwardNo is created an another sockpuppet account called "HappyTreeFriendsYesBubbleGuppiesNo". Can you please block them? Thank you. --Prodigy012 (talk) 19:08, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
Consider using User Reports to report this sort of thing next time. CooleyBoy10 (talk) 20:35, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A question regarding 2 users you blocked for being a potential sockpuppet of ThePBSArchive2020/PBSArchive:

How did you come to the conclusion that RaphyDoucetPictures and Raphymoviecollector2001 were sockpuppets of PBSArchive, so I could have Dmehus have a look into this, if it's possible? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 20:16, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

I saw it on the CLG Wiki:User Reports page. The reasoning there ("Judging by the edits they made on Company Bumpers Wiki, I suspect that they are a PBSArchive sockpuppet.") seems fairly plausible to me, considering how notoriously stubborn spammers sadly are on logo wikis. CooleyBoy10 (talk) 20:21, 30 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
While that is INDEED very strange, I'm actually shocked that ThePBSArchive2020 hasn't been locked himself, in spite of the cross-wiki vandalism. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 20:23, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
