Background

WIC Entertainment was the production and distribution arm of Western International Communications. At the time of closure, they were the owner of Superchannel, MovieMax!, BCTV, CHEK, CICT, CITV, and CISA, and the co-owner of Family, Teletoon, and Report on Business Television. In 1991, it acquired Allarcom and its production division, with Allarcom's former production division being initially renamed to Westcom Entertainment, but it was later renamed to WIC Entertainment nearly five years later.

1st Logo (December 15, 1991-1993)

Visuals: On a black/grey marble background, the large silver 3D letters "WIC", in a serif font, are seen in the center of the screen, casting a shadow and containing a small red compass inside of the "C". The background ripples for a second before stopping.

Variants:

  • On Christmas on Division Street, a still version of the logo exists with the text "In Association With" in the Souvenir font (kinda similar to the IAW version of the 1991 CPT logo) appearing below the logo. The logo is also tinted blue.
  • A print version of the logo exists, where the logo is in 2D and the full name appears below the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The closing theme to the TV movie.

Availability: It's seen on Christmas on Division Street, Adrift and Bluegrass Billygoats. The print version is seen on Digger, Hollywood Babylon and Fatal Memories.

2nd Logo (1992-February 9, 1996)

Visuals: On a black background, a shimmering abstract aurora shimmers across the screen, shining blue and green shades of color, as the WIC logo zooms and flips into place letter-by-letter. After the letters settle into place, the red compass fades inside of the "C", as well as the name "Western International Communications, Ltd." below in a white Arial font.

Variants:

  • Later Variant: Starting in 1994, the red compass is removed and the words are in Times New Roman.
  • Most of the time, the logo is still.
  • Sometimes, the text reads "Westcom Entertainment Group Ltd.".
  • On Pigasso's Place, the text "In Association With" appears below the logo.
  • On Whose Child is This?: The War for Baby Jessica, the still version appears, sharing the screen with the Orange Productions logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending theme of any show. CBS airings used a generic theme starting in 1994.

Availability: Seen on shows like TekWar, '90s prints of SCTV, the VHS version of Billygoat Bluegrass and the TV movie Black Fox.

3rd Logo (October 5, 1996-January 10, 1999)

Visuals: On a purple-tinted time-lapse sky background, a faux-3D silver version of the new WIC logo is shown on the left side of the screen, consisting of a human silhouette opening its arms up to form a radio wave visual. On the right of it, the text "WIC ENTERTAINMENT" fold out on the right side of the screen.

Variants:

  • On the first season of Nilus the Sandman and Billy The Cat, the logo is formed by a rippling wipe as the sky ripples in 2 spots. The text also reads "WESTCOM ENTERTAINMENT" in a different white font, as well as the full WIC name below.
  • On Kleo the Misfit Unicorn, the background is darker and lacks the purple tint and is arranged differently; The logo is placed at the top of the screen with the letters "WIC" shown below it, along with the name "WESTERN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS LTD." below. The logo simply shines.
  • On Donkey Kong Country, the text doesn't flip in.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending theme of any show. In rare instances, a synthesized ascending tune followed by four ascending chimes of sparkling with a relaxing sounder would play instead.

Availability: Seen on the first season of Donkey Kong Country, Emily of New Moon, Nilus the Sandman, and Kleo the Misfit Unicorn. It also appeared on certain international prints of Billy The Cat.

4th Logo (1998-July 7, 2000)

Visuals: On an orange cloudy background that is letterboxed, a silhouetted lightman is shown in front of some purple light streaks, operating a spotlight. He turns the spotlight on and off repeatedly, as if to transmit a Morse code message. Circular orange streaks also move in the background, with the words "e n t e r t a i n i n g" and "i d e a s" barely seen. The spotlight slowly begins pointing towards the camera, and when it turns head on, a big flash occurs, changing the scene to a platform with two more lightmen kneeling next to a slightly different WIC logo from the previous logo, having a curved bottom to the radio wave figure and "WIC" arranged to the right of it, and "ENTERTAINMENT LTD." under the platform. The spotlights turn on, and the WIC logo slowly rotates.

Variants:

  • A short version skips the flashing spotlight sequence and goes straight to the logo.
  • Most shows produced by WIC-owned stations, such as newscasts, have "TELEVISION LTD." instead of "ENTERTAINMENT LTD.".
  • On the Japanese dub of Donkey Kong Country, the logo is in-credit and animated in the custom ending theme.
  • On Mentors, the text "PREMIUM TELEVISION" appears below the WIC logo.
  • A print version of the logo exists on Bear with Me.

Technique: Live action and CGI.

Audio: For the long variant, there are some beeps and dark ambient sounds. Then, after the flash, a whoosh that leads to a single choir note with ascending synth harp notes. On some shows, the ending theme is played.

Availability: The "Entertainment" variant is seen on shows co-produced by WIC for cable and syndication, such as the last season of Donkey Kong Country on Teletoon, as well as Emily of New Moon, later season 1 episodes of Mentors, Higher Ground, Total Recall 2070 and The Country Mouse and the City Mouse Adventures. The "Television" variant was seen on most shows produced by WIC Television-owned and co-owned stations.
