Bumper (1980-1983)

Visuals:

  • For Sale Only: On a blue background is the texts "FOR SALE ONLY" and "NOT INTENDED FOR RENTAL" in yellow (in Times New Roman), and divided by a yellow line.
  • For Rental Only: Same as the "For Sale Only" screen, except the Times New Roman text is smaller, and says "FOR RENTAL ONLY" on the top, and "NOT FOR SALE" on the bottom, and below that is the text "PROPERTY OF WALT DISNEY TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND NON-THEATRICAL COMPANY".

Variant: A Canadian variant of the "For Sale Only" screen exists, where the text below the line says "RENTAL PROHIBITED". Originally, it was in the exact same font as the American version, but a later version also exists where the text smaller and spaced out.

Technique: A still, digital graphic with cross-dissolve transitions.

Audio: None.

Availability: Appears on releases from 1980-1983, such as The Black Hole, Pete's Dragon, and Escape to Witch Mountain. Later releases omitted the "For Sale Only" screen. The "For Sale Only" screen wasn't easy to find on almost all Canadian copies at the time, either; but the original version was found on a Canadian VHS of The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Island at the Top of the World, while the later version was spotted on a Canadian VHS of Trenchcoat.
