Background

Watchmaker Productions is a defunct Birmingham-based production company that was operated as a subsidiary of Chrysalis Television, formed by author Clive James in 1994. It was later absorbed into Chrysalis Entertainment in 2001.

1st Logo (December 31, 1994)

Visuals: On a white background, there is a circular "W" in orange with a purple camera-like light on top with a camera-like outline behind it. The "W" circle shines behind it and then the text "A WATCHMAKER PRODUCTION for" in a Futura font fades in, with the blue 1988 BBC logo on the bottom, and a copyright stamp below.

Technique: Analog computer animation.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on Clive James on 1994, a New Year's Eve BBC special.

2nd Logo (May 21, 1995-December 27, 2000)

Visuals: On a black background is the white word "WATCHMAKER PRODUCTIONS" in a Futura font and below it is the Chrysalis logo in blue, and with a byline.

Variants:

  • From 1995 to 1998, below the Chrysalis logo is a byline reading "A Chrysalis Company".
  • From 1998 to 2000, below the Chrysalis logo is a byline reading "Chrysalis". The background is also white, and the text above the Chrysalis logo is in black.
  • It sometimes shares the screen with other logos.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None or the end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on The Clive James Show, The Bob Downe Special, An Evening with Lily Savage, Monday Night Clive, Clarkson, Mondo Rosso and the first season of The Unforgettable.
