Background

Wish Films (formerly named Tell-Tale Productions) is a British children's television production company founded in 1994 by Will Brenton and Iain Lachlan. In 2004, the company was acquired by Entertainment Rights where it was later absorbed into Classic Media which in turn was acquired by DreamWorks Animation in 2012. In 2006, Tell-Tale was purchased out in a management buyout by Will Brenton and Iain Lauchlan, and was re-formed as Wish Films. Today, Tell-Tale's back catalog library is owned by NBCUniversal through Universal Pictures.

Tell-Tale Productions

1st Logo (January 5, 1996-1999)

Logo: On a white background we see a cartoon drawing of a white dog with black spots, snout and ear inside a brown spiked collar with a brown dog's lead with a gold hook, in a spoof of the MGM logo. Below it has the text "A Tell-Tale PRODUCTION" with two lines on the top and bottom.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on the direct-to-video series of Fun Song Factory and also appears on the 1998 GMTV series of the latter.

2nd Logo (September 6, 1999-December 23, 2006)

Logo: On a white background, we see a black eyelid shaped oval with "Tell~tale" in it. The words: "A" and "Production for" is sandwiched between the logo. An abstract drawn face then draws itself from its bridge of its nose all the way to its swirly eye and a drawing of outline of a eyelid with eyelashes appears.

Variants:

  • On some shows, the logo is still.
  • On Boo!, the show’s titular character appears on the bottom and waving.
  • During the last two years of the logo's existence (2005-2006), the logo was altered to read "Tell~tale Productions".

Byline: Starting from 2004, the byline "A Division of Entertainment Rights Plc" appears below the logo following it's acquisition.

Technique: The abstract drawn face draws itself, the eyelid drawing appearing.

Music/Sounds: Usually silent or the ending theme from its program.

Availability: Seen on many shows such as Tweenies, later episodes of Fun Song Factory, Boo!, BB3B and Wow! That's What I Call Nursery Rhymes.

Legacy: Some may be freaked out by the crudely drawn face.
