Background

Xi'an Film Studio was one of the major Chinese film production studios founded on August 23, 1958. Since its establishment, the studio produced 19 films during its first decade such as Peach Blossom Fan, which was acclaimed across China and SEA, and featured Chinese actress Wang Danfeng. Film production at the studio was prohibited during the Cultural Revolution but was resumed in 1979 with films such as The Reverberations of Life and The Xi'An incident. Xi'An Film Studio became a cradle of 'Chinese New Film' by recruiting recent Beijing Academy Graduates of the time and encouraging experimental film making, and the company reached its peak with films such as Old Well and Red Sorghum, receiving a series of international prizes and blockbuster awards as a result.

The company faced financial hardship after a cut of the government subsidies, and began to engage in international co-productions. The company along with its adjunct businesses were incorporated to Xi’an Film Studio Company in August 2000.

Visuals: On a sky background with some monuments and temples of Xi'an is a statue made of brown marble. The red text that translates to "Xi'an Film Studio" is seen below.

Variant: On A Yong, the logo is shown in B&W.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: A strong and majestic orchestral piece.

Audio Variant: Kai shan de ren uses the opening score of the film.

Availability: Seen in Bi hai hong bo, A Yong, and Kai shan de ren.

2nd Logo (1979-1980)

Visuals: On a blue background, a vertical picture of a pagoda is seen on the right section of the screen. Placed over the background and image is the company name in both Chinese characters and Latin, both of which have a black shadow facing the bottom left. The former is in a gold texture and the latter is white and capitalized.

Variant: On Love and Legacy, the background is green.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: Same as the previous logo. On other films it's silent.

Availability: Seen on Young Swallow, The Thrill of Life, and Love and Legacy.

3rd Logo (1980's?)

Visuals: There is a chariot being pulled by three horses on a red background with pedestal. The Chinese text and English text appears below. Then, the statue continues moving.

Variant: The rare 1986 version use a gold Chinese text and the statue is still.

Technique: Live-action model work.

Audio: 3 gong notes.

Availability: Seen on a few movies such as The Magic Braid.
