Background

Xperia is the currently used brand name of smartphones and tablets from Sony Ericsson and Foxconn corporation, after the acquisition of the mobile division of Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson. The name Xperia is derived from the word "experience", and was first used in the Xperia X1 tagline of "I Xperia the best".

1st Logo (October 2012-January 13, 2014)

Visuals: On a black background is the Xperia logo. Later, it cuts to a blue-purple spectrum passing through.

Variants:

  • Starting with the Xperia Z, the wind is colorful.
  • Based on the default wallpaper, it varies from series to series of devices.
  • On devices running Android KitKat and later, the mandatory "Powered by Android" logo appears after the Xperia logo before the animation. This is so far the only instances of the Powered by Android logo appearing outside the first few frames of the boot splash screen.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same startup sound used in Sony Ericsson phones.

Availability: The original version was only seen on the Xperia T, the first variant appeared on the Xperia Z and the second variant appeared on both Xperia Z1 and the T-Mobile US-exclusive Xperia Z1s. The third variant started appearing on the Xperia Z2.

2nd Logo (March 24, 2014-May 1, 2015)

Visuals: Same as the previous logo, but it instead cuts to a PlayStation 4-like background.

Variant: Starting with the Xperia Z3, the Xperia logo was replaced with the Powered by Android screen. Other changes are that the background is flat and the lines animate slightly faster.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as PlayStation 4's startup sound, but features Timpanis. On the Xperia Z2, the music plays earlier.

Availability: Only seen on the Xperia devices of 2014.

3rd Logo (April 20-July 27, 2015)

Visuals: Same as the Xperia Z3 variant of the previous logo, but a new Powered by Android screen is used and it cuts to a backgound similar to the 4th logo of Sony Computer Entertainment.

Technique: Just the moving background.

Audio: Same as the previous logo.

Availability: Only seen on the Xperia 3+ (aka Xperia 4).

4th Logo (September 2, 2015-2016)

Visuals: On a white background is the text "POWERED BY" and the 2014 Android logo forming in a simplistic way, as it then turns green. We fade out to see a white gradient background as a white line moves through, followed by two more lines, along with "Android is starting". It loops until the phone fully boots up.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on all devices to date.
