Background

YLE Extra was a former television channel operated by Yle, the Finnish public TV broadcaster. Replacing the previous YLE24 news channel, it was launched on April 27, 2007 in order to broadcast live events and handful of separate pop culture programs. YLE Extra suffered constantly with low ratings and the channel was quickly closed down on January 1, 2008.

(April 27, 2007-January 1, 2008)

Logo: We see the channel logo with two boxes: a large and smaller one surrounded by a large one with a hole shaped like a small and round "E". The logo has got caught on a orange and white wall and it has been rapidly moving to the music, as its attempting to get off the wall. The screen slowly pans away from the logo to an angle from above, while we see the logo creating multiple clones of itself that move away on straight line. The logo then settles down and we see a stylized "EXTRA" fading in right next to the logo.

FX/SFX: The CGI logo with its shadow on the orange and white wall, creating multiple clones of itself.

Music/Sounds: A calm synth theme that ends with a woman announcer whispering "Extra".

Availability: Extinct on TV. It could be spotted after the program had ended or as a closedown ident.

Editor's Note: It's a calm logo, but may surprise some at closedown, in which that it's immediately followed by an loud test card.
