Background

Yahoo! Originals was the production company of the American media company Yahoo! (whose service Yahoo! Groups also hosted the original CLG Wiki). It was founded in 2015. Its primary purpose was to produce programs for Yahoo!'s streaming service at the time, Yahoo! Screen. This, however, was discontinued in 2016, and the production division went with it.

(March 17-June 2, 2015)

Nicknames: "Silver Basketball (all-silver variant)", "Technological Yahoo!" (technology-esque variant)"

Logo:

  • Silver Variant: We see various small silver dots. The camera then zooms out to reveal that we are looking at a basketball made up of those small dots. The background then fades in, revealing a cityscape. As the basketball moves further away, the text "A YAHOO! RIGINAL" slowly turns into place. The basketball then rests as the "O" in "Originals". The logo then glimmers before suddenly, we see a large, sweeping white line followed by another line, this one purple, cover the screen. As the white line passes the text, the text becomes purple and the basketball becomes an "O". When the purple line passes over, the text becomes white.
  • Technology Variant: On a white background, we see a mobile-like screen. Various symbols appear on screen resembling that of a computer chip. The text finishes writing out, with a smiley-face replacing the "O" in "Originals". The process with the white and purple lines from the previous variant then occurs.
  • Community Variant: On a wooden background, "A YAHOO! ✿RIGINAL" is scribbled in purple, with a flower replacing the "O". The white and purple lines appear to form the logo.

Technique: All the animation in the logos.

Music/Sounds:

  • Silver Variant: A strange synthesized opening with drum beats and glimmering sounds. Towards the end, a remixed version of the old Yahoo! jingle begins playing.
  • Technology Variant: Various computer sounds, followed by the same remixed jingle.
  • Community Variant: Scribbling sounds with some background chatter and then the Yahoo! jingle.

Availability: Relatively difficult to spot considering its short usage and the company's primary distributor was their own streaming service that has since gone defunct. This logo is also removed or plastered whenever the service's former programs show up elsewhere, such as physical releases and other streaming platforms.

  • The Silver Variant was seen on Sin City Saints.
  • The Technology Variant was seen on Other Space.
  • The Community Variant was seen on season 6 of Community.
