Background

Yorkshire International Thomson Multimedia was a joint venture between Yorkshire Television International and Thomson Multimedia that released CD-ROM software and produced educational content.

In 1998, the company was renamed as Granada Learning. In 2006, ITV plc sold Granada Learning to private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson (VSS), who then sold it to Investcorp in 2012, rebranding the business as the GL Education Group.

Logo (1996-1998)

Visuals: On a dark blue background, a blue sphere slowly zooms in. After it stops, "YITM" in 3D fades in, overlapping with the top portion of the sphere and with its shadow lying on the top it. Then, the chevron used by Yorkshire Television flips in from the right, stopping on the bottom center of the sphere where it briefly flashes. A grungy and stylized "T" enters the screen with the same animation as the chevron but beginning on the right. A red bar then fades in underneath the sphere where "EDUCATION" in Copperplate fades in letter by letter. Lastly, the logo glows for a brief second.

Variant: An in-credit variant exists, where it takes place on the same background as the 1996 Yorkshire Productions logo. Also, like the "Yorkshire Television Production for Channel 4" version of the 1996 variant of the 7th logo, this does not feature the warped and transparent "3"s in the background at all.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A dramatic synth note for when the sphere zooms in. Following this is a synthesized piano piece that ends with a deep orchestral hit.

Availability: Their media is obscure and very hard to find, whether in-person or through e-commerce websites like eBay.

  • The normal logo was seen on science CD-ROMs such as their Science and Nature and Investigating Force & Motion series.
  • The in-credit variant was only known to appear on TV shows such as Geographical Eye and How We Used to Live: Britons at War, respectively, which are long gone from television.
  • It also appeared on 1997 episodes of Scientific Eye and was left intact when reran on Teachers.tv in the mid 2000s.
