Background

Echo Lake Entertainment (formerly Echo Lake Productions; also referred to as Blue Lake Media Fund for some in-credit notices) was founded by 1997 by Doug Mankoff, Andrew Spaulding, and Brittany Kahan Ward. The company is located in Beverly Hills, California. Prior to producing American projects, they were involved in foreign-language films and used in-credit notices. Echo Lake did not use an on-screen logo until 2003.

Echo Lake Productions

1st Logo (January 16, 2003-September 7, 2007)

Visuals: Scrolling up with the credits on the film, there is a circle with a cut-out silhouette of a white tree, with a teal-mint color reflecting on it, which somewhat appears to be a river. Underneath the circle is the company name spaced out in white.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the text is bigger and stacked.
  • On Before the Rains, the logo appears in a white box and the symbol is black and gray.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The closing theme of the film.

Availability: Seen on Levity, The Big Empty, and Before the Rains.

2nd Logo (January 23, 2006)

Visuals: On a black background, half of the tree branch silhouette in brown is shown, as a lake ripples below it. It is then shown in full with its color, as the company name in the same font from before fades in.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A rising synth theme.

Availability: Only seen on Dreamland.

Echo Lake Entertainment

1st Logo (September 13, 2009-April 18, 2013)

Visuals: The camera zooms out of a ocean as it's revealed to be reflecting off a silhouetted tree below it, that has a white flash behind it as it dies down into a sunset background. As it continues zooming out into its position, the company name in the same font from the last logo, ripples and fades in below the tree as it glows while the sunset moves. Then the picture turns into a blue color as it slowly fades into a black background, leaving just the name glowing before it fades out.

Variants:

  • An still in-credit notice version exists where it has the text stacked in a white box.
  • On the trailer for The Ward, the print logo is orange.
  • There is also a notice for Blue Lake Media Fund, although the box is teal with the company name inside.
  • On The Numbers Station, the logo is shortened and fades out just as the picture starts fading.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A calm, rising synth note which is held throughout. Sometimes it uses the opening theme of the movie or silence.

Availability: Seen on The Joneses, The Ward, Romeo & Juliet, and The Numbers Station.

2nd Logo (July 31, 2016-)

Visuals: The sequence starts off on a blue water background, as a leaf flies in and lands onto it, creating ripples. Then the camera moves back at an angle as the leaf blurs out while a silhouetted tree tinted in blue, fades and draws in, creating more ripples in the process. As that happens, the large text "ECHO LAKE" appears to the right, drawing in from different positions, while "ENTERTAINMENT" fades in, aligned to the right underneath. A bright light briefly flashes from the far left as it darkens down and we see the finished product for a few seconds, before fading out.

Variants:

  • A print version exists, sometimes without the tree silhouette.
  • A still version exists.
  • Sometimes, the leaf is colored red.
  • On TV shows, the logo sometimes shares the screen with other logos.

Technique: CGI by Filmograph.

Audio: A calm guitar tune which slowly builds up in the first few seconds, followed by a soft synth note in the last half. Sometimes, it uses the opening/closing theme of the movie/show or silence.

Availability: First seen on the TV series Van Helsing. The animated version debuted on The Man with the Iron Heart and was later seen on All the Bright Places and The Secrets We Keep. It also appears on the TV series The Great and The Girl from Plainville. However, it does not appear on Oxygen.
