1st Bumper (1983-1991)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a blue mirrored, stair-like texture which zooms out and rotates to face the camera. The word "PREVIEWS" is revealed as it zooms back to a comfortable distance over a city which moves in from the right. A few searchlights shine from the city, causing "PREVIEWS" to shine a bit.

Variants:

  • A short variant starts with the word already formed.
  • Before the movie, a variant appears where "MORE TO COME" in maroon trails in under "PREVIEWS".

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A short synth score, followed by a male announcer saying "Keep watching after this feature for more previews from the CBS/FOX (or Medusa) Video collection". After the film, he says "And now, more previews from the CBS/Fox Video collection," or for Medusa Communications releases, "And now, more previews from the Medusa home video collection." The CBS/FOX and Medusa variants have different announcers.

Availability: Seen on Australian CBS/Fox releases such as The Star Chamber and other tapes from the time as well, including those from Medusa Communications. The standard variant was dropped from 1987 onward, though the "MORE TO COME" variant continued to be used until 1991.

2nd Bumper (1991)

Visuals: On a black background, there is the following text:

From 20th Century Fox
Coming soon to a
theatre near you.

Technique: Fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: This was found on an Australian VHS of Home Alone, preceding a trailer for Hot Shots!.

3rd Bumper (1996)

Visuals: On a black-light blue gradient background, there is the following text:

PLEASE ENJOY
THE FOLLOWING
6 TRAILERS
COMING SOON

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Only seen on the 1996 Australian VHS of Down Periscope.

4th Bumper (1999-2006)

Visuals: There is the final result of the 1999 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment logo, but without "HOME ENTERTAINMENT". The text folds in where "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" is supposed to be.

Bumpers:

  • COMING TO VIDEO
  • NOW ON VIDEO
  • COMING TO CINEMAS
  • FEATURE PRESENTATION

Variants:

  • On Ice Age, the bumper is preceded by the yellow text "STAY TUNED AFTER FEATURE FOR ADDED FOOTAGE" in gold over a faded TCFHE logo. Then the bumper plays as normal.
  • Occasionally, the whole logo plays.

Technique: CGI. A still graphic for the "Stay Tuned" variant.

Audio: Hal Douglas saying one of the following:

  • "Coming to video for your home viewing pleasure."
  • "Now on video for your home viewing pleasure."
  • "Look for these exciting films, coming soon to cinemas."
  • "And now, our feature presentation."

Availability: Seen on every Aussie 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment VHS release at the time. Examples include Ice Age, Minority Report, One Hour Photo, Robots, I, Robot, and Garfield: The Movie.
