In 2022, the CLG Wiki celebrates its 15th year. From its origins as an evolution of the original KRS Logos, through its formative years on Wetpaint/Wikifoundry to new beginnings on Miraheze, this wiki has maintained one core mission: the preservation, discovery and describing of production logos old and new. The growth of our site from just a few dozen pages to a database of thousands of articles covering logos and idents from around the world, plus the Company Bumpers spin-off site and a thriving Discord community stands as a testament to the work and dedication of all our users over the last 15 years in carrying out that mission.

As we look back and reflect on how far we've come, we celebrate with pride our community members past and present and their contributions to this ever-growing site whether it's by writing descriptions, uploading logos, controlling vandals and trolls or just fixing a few mistakes. To everyone over the past decade and a half who has helped make this site what it is today, we say Thank You!

CLG Wiki: A Brief History

Here we take a look back at the events that shaped us as a community and brought us to where we are today:

July 24, 2007: CLG Wiki is created on Wetpaint, a wiki hosting service, by Silversword55. Its founding administrators are the aforementioned Silversword, DLChandell (DLC), Shadeed329 (Now PackMasterFlash), VofDoom, ASDFTheRevival, GreenLantern40, Willwill45 and Juniorfan88. Its original purpose is to expand on the work of Kris Starring, a member of the Closing Logos group on Yahoo! Groups, and a number of other contributors on his KRS logo descriptions site.
January 1, 2008: CLG Wiki's Dream Logos is established to separate the growing trend of dream logos from real logo descriptions
January 18, 2008: The closinglogos.com domain is registered.
2009: CLG Wiki wins the Judges Choice award in the Wetpaint Golden Can awards.
2009: As the wiki grows, the site undergoes structural changes. This results in the "Sectioned" structure we continue to use to this day.
2011: CLG Wiki Live, a live stream of logos and logo-themed content, is launched.
July 24, 2012: The CLG Wiki celebrates 5 years.
November 26, 2012: Company Bumpers is created as a place for the warning screens, ratings bumpers, and similar content that had accumulated on the main wiki.
June 2013: Wetpaint transitions to WikiFoundry as new management takes over the platform.
2014: The wiki goes briefly private as a drastic measure to deal with an influx of trolls. The abrupt unprivating of the wiki against the wishes of CLG administrators leads to the the first of several conflicts with the new staff of WikiFoundry ultimately culminating in the CLG's departure from the platform.
2015: The CLG Wiki attempts to migrate to Wikia (now known as FANDOM). Due to negative reactions in the community, the migration is quickly abandoned.
2015: The Cokeburst drama leads to the ousting of the founding administrator and longtime "owner" of the wiki DLChandell. Matthew Mayfield, Stephen Cezar (now CezarWBC2020), and Coley Dixon (also known as ColeyD) assume leadership over the site. This drama would come back with a vengeance three years later.
2017: CLG Wiki is nominated for the Hobby Hounds award in WikiFoundry's Golden Anvil awards.
July 9, 2017: The CLG Wiki Discord server is launched.
July 24, 2017: The CLG Wiki celebrates 10 years. It is to be our last anniversary on the original site.
January 1, 2018: The TAT Communications logo is found in part after over a decade of searching. Although partial, this is considered perhaps the most significant find ever made on the wiki.
January 2018: CLG Wiki is forced to reconsider the validity of many rare finds, including the controversial Cokeburst after their discoverer is exposed as a fraud. This leads to a more skeptical approach to bigger finds and a greater understanding among the community of how to discern fakes.
July 11, 2018: CLG Wiki Live is discontinued after 7 years following a period of neglect in which very little if any, new material was being added.
September - October 2018: The CLG Wiki, along with other wikis on the same platform, are impacted by a month-long outage on WikiFoundry's servers, where virtually all of the user base was unable to log in. The duration of the outage and lack of communication from WikiFoundry's ownership leads to several major wikis leaving the platform and CLG Wiki beginning to strongly consider its options moving forward.
November 5, 2018: As part of a shift towards a more encyclopedic and mature CLG Wiki and the de-emphasis of "scary" logos, the long-running "Scare Factor" and "Cheesy Factor" sections are retired in favor of the editor's note. This proves a controversial decision with some long-term contributors leaving the site as a result.
April 20, 2020: A thread is created raising concerns regarding the deprecation of Flash and WikiFoundry's reliance on it for several key features. The resulting discussion and the demeaning response from the owner of WikiFoundry leads to the decision to move the site to a new platform.
May 4, 2020: The current incarnation of CLG Wiki is created and efforts begin to migrate content from the original wiki. Company Bumpers follows suit, while Dream Logos is unofficially retired due to inactivity, lack of administration, and apathy from the userbase - remaining on WikiFoundry as a result. Many changes to long-standing elements of the site are made as we adapt to the much wider capabilities of Mediawiki.
September 18, 2020: The final remaining pages from the original wiki are migrated.
May 2021: With the enabling of the translation extension, the CLG Wiki takes its first step towards becoming a multilingual wiki.
June 1, 2021: WikiFoundry shuts down due to a lack of revenue to keep the increasingly aged platform running. As a result, the original CLG Wiki sites cease to exist outside of archived copies. An automatically created MediaWiki conversion now exists on closinglogos.com; though this has been more or less abandoned and the information on it is now increasingly out of date.
October 11, 2021: The CLG Wiki's 10,000th article is created.
February 13, 2022: The early version of the THX "Cimarron" trailer is finally found when a video was posted on the Discord server. This variant was infamous for breaking speakers and its very rare availability and the search for it at times reached levels of intensity and notoriety similar to that of the TAT Communications logo.
September 9, 2022: Due to the surprise demotion of several admins by Matthew Mayfield, the discontinuation of the Discord server, and the resulting backlash from both the CLG Wiki community and Discord servers, him, Stephen Cezar, and other BOD members left the Miraheze site to form a new CLG Wiki.
September 28, 2022: The Miraheze site was rebranded to the Audiovisual Identity Database (AVID) after an on-wiki poll.

Happy 15th Anniversary to our beloved Closing Logo Group Wiki! I have been editing the Closing Logo Group Wiki since late 2010's, and uploaded these logos I captured. I proudly celebrate the CLG Wiki's 15th anniversary of its memories since 2007, and I never left the wiki since. Like Kohmi Hirose's 1998 album THE BEST "Love Winters", CLG Wiki has a heart of the best logos, like WikiFoundary and Fandom, and keeps on running for over 15 years! Thank you very much!! Yeah wow! 15 years of the CLG wiki. That's pretty admirable. It's awesome to see how the CLG was able to adapt from a niche wiki that Yahoo-era folk really only used to a multi-faceted flexible center of motion graphic memorabilia that's still admittedly a niche but it's a popular one! Wow, 15 years? I had been visiting this wiki since 2014 when it was a WikiFoundry site and became an editor this year, this has to be one of my favorite wikis I have ever been to, I actually kind of feel old now, It's 15 years of Logo describing and keep on describing! Sierra here, wishing y'all a happy (if belated) fifteenth anniversary. I remember when I first came across the site on Wetpaint back in '07. I would browse the pages for hours on end, over and over again. And that continued through the years, even as it transitioned to Miraheze. It wasn't until recently, though (read: last year-ish) that I made an account here. And despite the drama that occasionally occurs here, and the socks, I'm proud to be a member of the family. Ever since I was, like, 6, I'd visit both the original CLG and the original Dream Logos websites. I never stopped supporting the CLG ever since I know 'em. They're one of the reasons I'm still into logos! I wanted to wish them a happy 15 years and may there come many more. User:DannyTheMuppetMan

As a final closing-off to this year of excitement, change, anxiety, and challenges, I just want to say...let us hope for a more prosperous fifteen years, and many more happy years ahead in this new era.
