Here at AVID our goal is to document as many company identities as possible. However, along the way, we have had to discontinue features or sections from our wiki. This page was made to document them all.
Scare Factor/Cheesy Factor
Scare Factors used a ranking system from Minimal to Nightmare and described frightening aspects in a logo. The Cheesy Factors were used to describe outdated elements in a logo, as well as errors and nitpicks. These sections were heavily opinionated, and were more often written in a rant-style manner, especially the latter. After a vote was cast, these sections were merged into the Editor's Note.
Editor's Note
The Editor's Note functioned as a more unbiased version of the scare/cheesy factors. It was debuted in 2018 as the replacement for those sections. However, because Editor's Notes were deemed mandatory by site staff, many of these were usually recycled or derived from archived Scare/Cheesy Factors, or were otherwise generally opinionated. Following the rebrand to AVID, Editor's Note was renamed to the now-optional Legacy, and strict guidelines regarding POV and opinionated comments have since been enforced, ensuring Legacy is only used if the visual being described impacts the community in a large way.
Nicknames
The nicknames section was used to list nicknames that a logo was given. However, many of them were either not widely used enough to warrant their presence, were generally absurd in nature, or albeit rarely, were purposely humorous in nature. (i.e. "Majestic Tower 6", "The Reflection/Shadow of the C in the Warehouse", or "And Then a Skeleton Popped Out!") Nicknames still have a minor presence, but only if they're official titles given by the company. (i.e THX's "Broadway") Community-made nicknames also have a much more minor presence, albeit relegated to a mention in the Legacy section, and only if they're much more widely used. (i.e. the "V of Doom", or the "S from Hell")
FX/SFX
This section was intended to describe the types of effects and animations used in a logo. However, there have been countless pages (dating back to the KRS Logos days) that used this section to merely act as a summary for the logo's description.
Proper usage of FX/SFX was later changed to describing the method of which the visuals were produced (i.e. CGI, cel animation, practical effects). At first, small attempts were made to eliminate these misused sections, but it wasn't until late 2022 that a larger commitment to change this section was made. Following the rename to Technique, most FX/SFX artifacts were eliminated and demonstrate proper usage of the section.
