AVID:Requests for Comment/Newly registered users can only create pages in the draft space

This is something I've planned since last year. The premise is: Newly registered users would only be able to create pages in the draft space, and once they become autoconfirmed (after X number of days and X number of edits) then can they create pages in mainspace. I've already enabled the extensions for this, though I have not activated them just yet. I want to hear your opinion on this. Should newly registered users only be able to create draft pages? Support Very useful for combatting blank page creations ifyoudarethenpizzait aka Compooper (talk) 13:15, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
Support To expand on Compooper's reason, it has been abused by some users to where it floods the wiki with more pages not only consisting of nothing, but also grammatical disasters (I'm looking at you, PBSArchive). The more of these type of pages, the more lazy, amateurish, and even misleading we look when the search engine states we have an article on this logo, but in actually we have absolutely nothing about it. The edit count minimum is especially useful for this because even if new users can only create pages in draftspace, they can still abuse it without worrying about an edit count minimum. Implementing something like a days/count minimum will will not only solve this issue better, but perhaps give them more time to understand how to create a page through making hundreds of edits and reading numerous articles. Ever since this was first proposed since early in the summer this year, I have strong hopes for this time. I think it's that good of a proposal that will improve the quality of the site in the long run and directly address an ongoing issue not many people are taking seriously. Abstain
- I don't currently see how this is needed. If a significant percent of new users are creating unfinished pages (let's say 20-40%), then this can easily become a support, but for now I cannot support this request. I should also note that you would likely need to restrict the moving of pages as many could bypass this by moving unfinished pages into the main namespace. Blad (talk) 14:48, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Oppose
Oppose Now that's kinda unfair. What if someone actually knew a logo, made an account to put it on, and accidentally hit the submit button just to get reported and banned? Also, if we did this, we would have to introduce a ton of new policies. Like, how old your account has to be to make a page for mainspace. And not all newbies know what the draft template is or how to let people know that what they made is a draft. CharlieFiddlesticks (talk) 15:36, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- The extension I've enabled (but not activated yet) will automatically disallow newly registered users to create mainspace pages (so it will be impossible for them to create mainspace pages anyway) and they will be redirected to AVID:Create a Draft Page. The Create a Draft Page also automatically adds the Draft template to the page. Logohub (talk) 16:11, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Aww those poor newbies :(
- Well, how about when they make a page, it automatically adds the draft template to them. CharlieFiddlesticks (talk) 16:14, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- That's exactly what the Create a Draft Page does. Logohub (talk) 16:23, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- oh. well I guess you can take this vote back :| CharlieFiddlesticks (talk) 16:48, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

- How will this affect new members' ability to edit existing pages? For example, someone joined in because they know the title of the song (as was the case with me knowing the song in one of the Seven Keys Video logos). --Pingu (talk) 23:01, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- I do think they should be able to edit existing pages that haven't already been protected for autoconfirmed users ifyoudarethenpizzait aka Compooper (talk) 23:10, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- They can still edit mainspacw pages, they just wouldn't be able to create one in mainspace Logohub (talk) 01:49, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
