Welcome! If you are considering requesting to become either a moderator or an administrator, you must read the Note below. Please see the Instructions section for guidance on how to request.

Note to Requesters

It is best to learn the ins and outs of being part of site staff, as it will be a big responsibility. So before you continue, please read the entirety of the AVID:Site Staff page, and take note of what we expect from a staff member.

Moderatorship

The Moderator role allows users to help out the Admins and Bureaucrats by gaining slightly elevated powers to help keep the Wiki clean and free from vandals, without the power to enact major changes to the Wiki. It is also a first step and learning experience with the Wiki's staff team for users who wish to become Admin or Bureaucrat in the future.

What are the requirements?

• You must have at least 250 edits and they must be in good faith. (Edits prior to May 2020 on the former CLG Wiki website are counted towards this threshold)
  • In addition, these edits must not be filler/useless (i.e. overly minor changes to text that are not needed, continually editing your user page and not contributing to mainspace articles). Do not pad your edit count just to meet this criteria.
• You must not have been strongly warned within the last 3 months or tempblocked within the last 6 months.
• You should show a keen interest in the site and willingness to get involved with the community.
• You should show evidence of helping out the Admin team in the past. This includes reporting users and alerting Admins, but it does not require you to have done any rollbacks in the past.
  • Actions users have taken on the Wiki's official Discord server will also be taken into account when considering users for Moderator.

I have the commitment needed for Admin. Can I skip Moderator and jump straight to Admin?

Adminship

Administrators work to maintain AVID and keep it running. Administrators have a lot of power, and thereby have significant responsibility. They should use their powers to combat vandalism/spam, and keep the wiki running in an orderly manner.

I know I can handle being an administrator. What are the requirements to becoming one?
While bureaucrats do have some flexibility in deciding who becomes an administrator, there are a set of base guidelines that they look for in reviewing requests:

• User must have registered their account 1 year ago. In addition, you must have at least 1,000 or more edits. (once again, edits from the former CLG Wiki are included)
• User should not currently be disruptive to the wiki, intentionally or not.
• User has not previously requested for adminship within the past 3 months.
• User has proven knowledge of AVID and its site rules. This means that they follow editing guidelines, they fix and improve pages, they upload high quality logos and follow copyright rules, etc.
• User is active in fighting vandalism, sockpuppetry, and policy-breakers. This means that their editing history provides evidence of assisting administrators (i.e. editing talk pages of admins to alert them of destructive users), reporting users, and undoing/rolling back poor or nonconstructive edits.

I satisfy (or mostly satisfy) all of the above requirements. What now?
Remember that when you become an administrator, you are expected to increase in activity and effectiveness. If you are granted adminship, you are expected to edit often and use your powers responsibly. You are expected to continue doing all of the above and more. This includes approving and/or rejecting edits on the moderation queue, responding to user reports, responding to messages or questions on your talk page, monitoring the recent changes, participating in wiki discussions, maintaining the front/AVID/MediaWiki pages, and constructively utilizing administrator abilities. If your request is approved and you are caught abusing your powers, bureaucrats reserve the right to remove your rights and punish you accordingly.

I am prepared to do everything you just listed and more.
If you truly believe you are a fit to become an administrator, then we wish you luck! Be aware of how the requesting process works. This is a voting process. All users are permitted to vote, whether or not they are an administrator. They will either support, oppose, or comment. After a request is published, AVID editors have a maximum of one month to vote, although closure can occur earlier at the original author's request or if consensus one way or the other is overwhelming (SNOW). After one month is up, should none of the early closure exceptions apply, a bureaucrat will review the votes and make a decision. If more than one month has passed and a bureaucrat has not responded to a request, feel free to notify a bureaucrat on their talk page or via Discord. You are not permitted whatsoever to edit in the support or oppose sections after the maximum voting period has passed. You may add or reply to comments, but you may not modify or remove others' comments. If you are caught trying to influence editors to vote or change their vote, your request will be disqualified. Cheating, incivility, and harassment is prohibited. The Instructions section below will guide you on how to publish a request.

Please ensure you have read the above section. Anyone requesting must have a valid reason to why they should be promoted, and understand how to use the abilities. Use the code below to request. Fill in each parameter with what is specified (except the "Request" and "~~~~" part, leave that alone). Remember that these abilities are not given out freely or carelessly, and that they are not for fun. If your request is ignored or rejected, do not feel bad. Take the voters' advice and begin to work harder so you can request again in the future.

All users are able to vote, but may only vote once per request. Please note that if a request has already been approved/rejected by a bureaucrat, you are no longer able to vote. Hi there, I have been active on here since 2022 and I have been doing a lot of grammar fixes. ALso, I have reported a few rulebreakers including one that was underage. I have also created a couple of new pages and I have even split a few pages. The reason why I want to become a mod is that I want to help keep this wiki clear from socks, rulebreakers and vandals so it can stay as a free, fun, and fair wiki.

Oppose. It's been made clear that you actually only care about yourself, seeing as you've only made filler edits to boost your edit count. Not a single member of AVID staff that I've spoken to would trust you in any position of power, and the fact that you said you're trying again after being laughed out of the room 3 times already shows that the message just isn't getting through. Hi. I've been active on here since 2022, and I've gone a long way from there. Since the last time I requested, I've become more mature, been taking more attention to user reports, reporting people when they break rules, and I would do anything to keep the site up and running. Whenever someone does something wrong, I would really like to make it right. I would like to be part of the staff because of this. I would love to play a part in keeping this wiki sock-free, vandal-free and rule-breaker free, so this wiki can be one of the most popular sources of information for logos for now, for ever.

Support I would first like to start off by saying, I don't really know the dynamics around here (as in permission requests), but I believe that the candidate has some good possibilities with moderator. Seeing their contributions, I can definitely say that these few extra permissions will help what they are doing. Oppose I am going to echo the others and say you should probably wait a bit longer before you apply for a role on the staff team. You did indeed get off to a rough start here at AVID, but I have seen noticeable improvement from you in recent times and you have settled into the community much better now. You have made some good efforts so far in terms of helping out the staff team, but I would like to see you continue working at this and even try to exceed what you've done so far. You will have my support when the time is right, if you want feedback on where you're at/how you're progressing towards becoming moderator-ready, I am sure myself and the other members of staff will be willing to tell you what you've been doing well and where you can improve. Co-operating with us and showing keen enthusiasm to work with us and learn the site is intuition we like to see and definitely helps make a name for yourself - especially when it comes to us supporting new staff members to join our team.    It's that I've been paying more attention to user reports. For example, remember Sadspongebob21 aka. Jack Norris? That was me. And then Parkee is Back, while I didn't make the report, I did mention someone else he targeted (789). As well as that, YouKonade said the S-word on a forum. That was me (Sure, that wasn't as bad as vandalism or sockpuppetry, but it's still a rule to not swear). Sgtshep557 uploaded 2 fake logos and a fake draft. I know most of the users I reported were minor, but I still think I'm ready for this responsibility. 13:13, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

   Whenever anything goes wrong, I make them right. That's why I want to be a mod, so I can resolve problems with other users, and help the wiki, as it is bigger than ever, and needs as much help as it can get. 17:32, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

2. I hope nobody is particularly fooled by negligible reports of very small violations, the continued evasion from any substantial reason besides 'pls I want it', and the lack of demonstrated skills or judgement that might help in realizing this role. Every time I see Sonicfan one phrase comes to mind: high maintenance. Not a wise addition to the staff team until there is a radical shift in Sonicfan's core behavior. Obsessing over getting moderatorship and even adminship was demonstrated in the forums not long ago. This is harsh, but AVID has standards to keep for its scale and people who want to collect hats aren't it. An avoidable repeat of administrative issues from the 789guy (not considering the scandal that was lopped on top). I recommend Sonicfan just stop placing these requests and wait until someone authoritative tells him it's time to apply. --Raidarr (talk) 14:39, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

   That obsession wasn't me. Also, when you said to tell me to stop it, you're kinda sounding like I just constantly post requests, when I only posted 1 back then, and 1 now. And the reason why most of them were minor because that's all I've spotted so far. If I did, I'd report them immediately. As well as that, I've also done some good edits and contributions lately, and I want to help with the wiki as much as I can. So, I've been active since 2022 (before then, I lurked on WF for several years, but couldn't create an account because of how difficult it was for me, and officially joined a couple months after the Miraheze move; I took a hiatus for about a year due to Qualitipedia ruining Miraheze for me, only rejoining around the time the BoD got ousted). I've worked as hard as I could to clean up pages (such as removing leftover Legacy or Technique misuse, grammar fixes, etc.). I've focused more on editing and cleanup than combatting socks, but I've done my best to remain active here and on the Discord server just about every day, and I'm still doing my best to help keep AVID a well-oiled ship. Even without all this, I was noted to be one of the saner Qualitipedia staff members, as well as a good second-in-command in the unofficial AVID Chronicles Discord server. Though I admit, I can be brash and make bad decisions too quickly. That said, I know being a mod is a great responsibility, and I want to try and help other users here as best as I can, as well as continuing to help keep AVID as well-run as possible.

Hey y'all. You all probably know me by this point.

I've been trying my best to be a really hardworking individual on this wiki for at least 2 years now, such as expanding pages, cleaning up pages, helping out other users, and more. Although I haven't played an active role when it comes to the Discord server and combatting sockpuppets (although I have indeed reported some users who are sockpuppets in the past), I've been trying my best to keep in touch with everyone here, admins, bureaucrats, and normal users on this wiki because we are a community where we should be treated the same as always. With my abilities, I will try to help and be open towards other users with certain things, such as their user page and a grasp of this wiki, and of course, keeping this wiki clean as much as possible. I hope this is enough because I am heavily aware that it is a responsibility I have to treat with care, especially given that I still have school, which thankfully, is almost over.

So, as some of you may have noticed, I stepped down as a moderator recently. I've taken this time to boost my edut count, as I feel that was the only thing blocking me from joining the admin team. I've contributed significantly to the project over my several years on-site, including writing the original description for the DWA 2019 logo, as well as some quality-of-life edits, such as clearing out opinionated comments and misuse of the technique section. During my time as moderator, I tried to respond quickly and efficiently to as many issues as the public wanted, a mentality I continue to utilise on the Discord server. I feel like I'm ready to take the next step, and I hope you feel I am too.
