Bluebird Photoplays was an American film production company active during the silent film era, operating as a prestige subsidiary of Universal Pictures. Filming at Universal's California and New Jersey studios, it marketed its productions independently despite being under Universal’s ownership. Known for its talented roster, Bluebird featured stars like Mary MacLaren, Louise Lovely, Carmel Myers, Mae Murray, and Rudolph Valentino, with directors including Ida May Park, Elsie Jane Wilson, and Tod Browning. Founded with a $500,000 studio in New Jersey, the company was managed by M.H. Hoffman and saw investment from Louis B. Mayer, cementing its reputation as a notable but short-lived Universal brand.
