United Kingdom

1st Bumper (1992-1997)

Visuals:

  • Future Video Releases: There is a PAL VCR. A spotlight shines on it, and the screen zooms right through it, revealing several blue crossfading shots of the inner mechanics of the VCR. After a few seconds, the shiny chrome text "FUTURE VIDEO RELEASES" flies out from behind a spool and settles in the middle. The background fades to blue.
  • Cinema Releases: On a blue gradient cinematic background, there is an audience at the bottom with blue curtains at the front of the audience and a spotlight at the left side of the screen projecting a blue screen on the curtains, then the light on the audience dims as the words "CINEMA RELEASES" appear on the screen and the curtains draw back as the audience becomes silhouettes.

Variant: On Australian releases, the text reads "FUTURE CINEMA RELEASES".

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio:

  • A tribal drum tune and a single long synth note, ending with a "BOOM".
  • A much calmer version of the 1991 CIC Video logo music.

Availability: Used only on rental CIC Video tapes from late 1991-early 1997 available in the UK and Australia, such as Child's Play 3 and Drop Zone.

2nd Bumper (1996-1999)

Visuals: On a dark blue background with aqua crescent-like C's, a teal CIC logo is seen flying through them. Then, one of the following bumper texts appears behind an aperture-like center. The CIC logo then goes through the bumper text and lands on the face of the aperture, and then the camera zooms up to it before it flashes into a trailer.

Bumpers:

  • Available to Buy
  • Rental Releases
  • Coming Soon
  • Cinema Releases
  • Feature Presentation
  • Behind the Scenes

Variants: Most of these bumpers have a different take of the animation.

  • The "Available to Buy" and "Rental Releases" bumpers have the appropriate text in white 3D letters.
  • The "Coming Soon" bumper has the text in gold.
  • The "Cinema Releases" bumper uses the same footage as the "Coming Soon" variant (aside from the text), but there are rectangular spotlights that flicker like film projectors and the text is in plain white letters.
  • The "Feature Presentation" bumper has the text in light blue letters, and appear on the aperture instead of the CIC logo. Also, the CIC logo bumps into the C's a few times, causing a shower of sparks to appear. The aperture center opens, then the CIC logo then goes into the aperture, which closes and then, the camera zooms into the aperture, and after that, it flashes to black.
    • Most UK VHS releases with this bumper have it flash into a BBFC film classification symbol (depending on what the feature is rated) on the same background as the 1996-2001 CIC Video warning.
  • Sometimes, in between trailers, only the aperture with the CIC logo is seen, which closes and opens into the next trailer.
  • The "Behind the Scenes" bumper is just the text flipping in on the same background as the 1996-2001 CIC Video warning.
  • DreamWorks releases just use a version where it shows the camera going through the C's, then "NOW AVAILABLE ON VIDEOCASSETTE" or "DREAMWORKS FEATURE PRESENTATION" flies in, before zooming close into the camera.

Technique: CGI effects.

Audio: A quick electronica tune which ends with a whoosh sound. Again, most of these bumpers have a different take of the audio.

Audio Variants:

  • The "Available to Buy" and "Rental Releases" bumpers have a metallic "clang" sound when the CIC logo goes through the text.
  • The "Coming Soon" and "Cinema Releases" bumpers use the same take of the audio, and have a choir as the words appear.
  • The "Behind the Scenes" bumper and both DreamWorks bumpers use the audio from the "Available to Buy" bumper. On the "Behind the Scenes" bumper, part of the whoosh is cut off slightly.
  • The short trailer variant only has two whoosh sounds.

Availability: Seen on British CIC Video releases during the era. [Examples?]

Germany

1st Bumper (1991?-1998?)

Visuals: On the same background as the warning screen used at the time, a vertical yellow strip with a CIC Video logo pattern and the word "DEMNÄCHST" cut out on it scrolls up, as another strip with the same design, but purple, horizontal, and with the word "VIDEO" cut out on it, slides in, settling in the center. The screen then flashes, making the word "auf" in a cursive font appear above "VIDEO", which becomes pale blue.

Variant: Another variant exists where the vertical strip is dodger blue and reads "AUCH", and the word "VIDEO" is filled in with white.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An upbeat synth techno theme.

Availability: Found on German VHS releases of the time, such as The Indian in the Cupboard.

2nd Bumper (1996-1999)

Visuals: On the same background as the 1997-1999 Warning Screen, one of the following texts appears, after a few seconds it ends with the CIC Logo animating from the 7th Logo with a ghost-like effect. The text (depending on what it says) then zooms out onto the CIC Logo as it turns white:

  • Demnächst auf Video
  • Weitere Programmhinweise nach dem Hauptfilm
  • Auch auf Video

Technique: CGI effects.

Audio: The music from the 7th CIC Video Logo.

Availability: So far, seen on the German release of Small Soldiers.

Spain

Visuals: On a navy blue background, there are the words "PROXIMOS LANZAMIENTOS EN VIDEO" or "YA A LA VENTA".

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None.
