Background

China Star Entertainment Group was founded in 1987 as Win's Movie Production Limited. The company produced 60 films in Hong Kong, including the God of Gamblers series. In 1993, the company was renamed to Win's Entertainment Limited, and produced over 30 films in China by directors like Wong Jing and others. In 1996, it was renamed to its current name, although the Win's Entertainment Limited name continued to be used until 2000, and again in 2010 as Win's Movie and Television Production Limited.

1st Logo (June 28, 1997-2001)

Visuals: On a starry background, a large white shining sunburst is glowing from below. Then a blue object pans over the screen, and reveals that it is shaped like the Chinese character "". A blue square then zooms out, boxing in the "". Then a flash appears over the bottom right corner of the "", revealing a yellow star. The logo then zooms out a bit, and the orange company name in English and Chinese fades in below.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An orchestral fanfare, with some drums and a 4-note timpani note before the logo finishes.

Availability: Seen on some movies like A True Mob Story and many others.

2nd Logo (2000-2002)

Visuals: It starts with a space background with orange mists moving on a milky way. A transparent sparkling ball of light moves over the backdrop, and then reveals the "", which fills itself in orange. An orange lined frame then appears around the "", and the star forms like the 1st logo, but shines for much longer. The Chinese text "中国星" and the company name in English appears below in blue.

Variant: An early variant exists. Here, the stars in the orange mists are more less wider, the text is aligned differently and has a light trail behind it, and there is no light shining through the "".

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None or the opening theme of the movie.

Audio Variants:

  • On Help!!!, it uses the next logo's theme, minus the ambient note.
  • On a print of The Duel, it uses the BoB and Partners Co. Ltd. theme, due to a plastering error.

Availability: Seen on some movies produced by the company from 2001 to 2003, such as the aforementioned Help!!!. It is commonly appeared on the film with One Hundred Years of Film or Milkyway Image as a co-producer.

3rd Logo (2002-2016?)

Visuals: On a space background, there is a trail of light that produces star shapes. The "" forms, filling itself in like the previous logo, but now in a brighter shade of red. It tilts to the right as the trail of light stops at its bottom right corner and becomes the star. A lined backdrop appears behind the "". The small text "CHINA STAR ENTERTAINMENT GROUP" appears and the Chinese text "中国星" appears below it.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A soothing piano theme. It resembles the theme of the 1996 Warner Home Video logo, but slowed down. Chime sounds accompany the shining of the star, and the logo ends on an ambient note.

Availability: It was seen on movies produced by the company from the timeframe, such as Fatal Move. Appeared with the Milkyway Image or One Hundred Years of Film logos.

4th Logo (2016-2019?)

Visuals: There is a red comet trail from the right side of the screen. It bursts into a spiky, 3-dimensional star-like object. It then grows more structures, which act like the foundations of a building. There is different angles of the growing structures, which eventually form what appears to be an enclosed box. As the structures close themselves off, the screen zooms out to see that the "" logo is the result. A yellow flash of light blinds the screen, revealing the star, line backdrop, and the text from the previous logo, which glow.

Variant: A variant for Hero Star Movie Cultural Company exists. Here, a golden star from the logo rotates and comes closer to the camera, which transitions into the "" zooming out and glows, followed by "帼星" fading in letter-by-letter. The Chinese text "幗星電影文化產業(北京)有限公司" then fades in below while the light passes through the line background and the star from the "". The small company name below the "" is omitted in this variant.

  • The Hero Star Movie Cultural Company variant is only seen on the aforementioned League of Gods.

5th Logo (2019?-)

Visuals: We first start off inside a red surface with yellow lights shining through it as the camera moves and rotates. It then reveals that we are inside of one of the holes of the "". Several golden lines appears and starts moving as the camera pans down into the lines and continues to rotate. A star comes through from the left, spins and rotates to place over the logo like before, with the scene going slo-mo as the star comes closer to the screen. The lines then disappear to reveal that everything is in a space background (with a blue flash illuminates the background, which later vanishes as "中国星" goes to its normal font), and starts forming the line backdrop. Below, "中国星" fades in and rapidly changing different fonts into its normal font. It then fades into the logo from before.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An ominous synth tune.

Availability: It appeared on Chasing Dream, and their latest films.
