Background

China Star Entertainment Group was founded in 1987 as Win's Movie Production Limited. The company produced 60 films in Hong Kong, including the God of Gamblers series. In 1993, the company was renamed to Win's Entertainment Limited, and produced over 30 films in China by directors like Wong Jing and others. In 1996, it was renamed to China Star Entertainment Group, although the Win's Entertainment Limited name continued to be used until 2000.

Win's Movie Production Limited

(1988-1996)

Logo: On a black background, five colored neon lines shoot out, forming a rainbow five-pointed star, the lines then shrink out, which then flashes into an abstract chrome-textured "W" (with a star shape cut-out and a small flag shape within the star shape). The Chinese characters appear letter-by-letter, and the words "WIN'S MOVIE PRODUCTION & I/E CO." zooms out via cyan (or light blue) trailing effect, which flashes, and the Chinese characters then appears letter-by-letter like before.

Variant: One variant has the different Chinese characters, and the name referred to "WIN'S MOVIE PRODUCTION LIMITED", and the Chinese text is also different.

FX/SFX: The lines shooting out, the flashing of the logo, and the text zooming and appearing.

Music/Sounds: An orchestral and flute fanfare. On the another variant, a rearranged version of the original version was used.

Availability: Common. Seen on some Win's Movie Productions films from the era. The Win's Movie Productions film library was replaced with new name as "Win's Entertainment Ltd.".

Legacy: This logo is a favorite in the Hong Kong film community.

Win's Entertainment Limited

1st Logo (1995-Mid 1998?)

Logo: On a space background with searchlights, many golden filmstrips are moving over the milkyway, and some stars then shoots over the filmstrip. The filmstrip then flow out, like a zig-zag, and then moves it, with a stars begin to place on the "w" forming the current Win's Entertainment Ltd. logo. A gold Cantonese text then moves it with a 3D effect, and then shrinks it, making the searchlights and many stars gone it. Then the logo finishes with ping.

FX/SFX: The filmstrips, stars and the searchlights moving, the forming and the text moving. Nice animation.

Music/Sounds: A majestic sounding fanfare, with a whooshes and a timpani sounds (which is from a stock sounds effect in these library.) Sometimes, it's silent or have the opening theme.

Availability: Common than the previous logo, but is still uncommon. Seen on some films released by Win's Entertainment Ltd. from 1995 to 1998. It was found on released movies on DVDs and a trailers of the film that is now in HD only. The DVDs releases can be found on Fortune Star, Universe and Mei Ah Laser Disc releases of said film.

2nd Logo (1996-2000)

Logo: On a black background with some white mists and a windchimes, the logo from before also in white moves out and zooms out to reveal a logo with the logo begin to turn into yellow. Many stars are moving over the background, which then flashes to make a same logo from before. The company name in English appear below via trailing effect letter-by-letter, and then make room for the Cantonese text (not like the 1st logo) fades in below.

FX/SFX: The shining and flashing, the recycled animation from the previous logos. Nice animation.

Music/Sounds: A wind sounds (representing blowing out music) are heard when revealing the logo. Then it cuts to oriental-sounding fanfare with a bling sounds. Then a quiet fanfare is heard with drums sound was heard.

Availability: It was seen on some movies made from 1996 to 2000, such as Another Meltdown, Dr. Wai in "The Scripture with No Words" and The Conman.

China Star Entertainment Group

1st Logo (1997-2001)

Logo: On a starry background, a large white shining sunburst is glowing from below. Then a blue object pans over the screen, and reveals that it is shaped like the Chinese character "王". A blue square then zooms out, boxing in the "王". Then a flash appears over the bottom right corner of the "王", revealing a yellow star. The logo then zooms out a bit, and the company name in English and Chinese fades in below.

FX/SFX: The white shining and the objects forming.

Music/Sounds: A orchestral fanfare, with some drums and a 4-note timpani before the logo finishes.

Availability: Rare. Seen on some movies like A True Mob Story and many others.

2nd Logo (2001-2003?)

Nickname: "The Shining Object"

Logo: It starts with a space background with orange mists moving on a milky way. A transparent sparkling ball of light moves over the backdrop, and then reveals the "王", which fills itself in the color orange. An orange lined frame then appears around the "王", and the star forms like the 1st logo, but shines for much longer. The 3 Chinese characters and the company name in English appears below in blue.

FX/SFX: The shining, and the logo forming.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Seen on some movies produced by the company from 2001 to 2003.

3rd Logo (2003-2016?)

Logo: On a space background, we see a trail of light that produces star shapes. The "王" forms, filling itself in like the previous logo, but now in a brighter shade of red. It tilts to the right as the trail of light stops at its bottom right corner and becomes the star. A lined backdrop appears behind the "王". The small text "CHINA STAR ENTERTAINMENT GROUP" appears in red and the Chinese characters appear in blue below it. The logo fades out.

FX/SFX: Nice CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: A soothing piano theme. It resembles the theme of the 3rd Warner Home Video logo, but slowed down. Chime sounds accompany the shining of the star, and the logo ends on an ambient note.

Availability: Common.

4th Logo (2016-2019?)

Logo: We see a red comet trail from the right side of the screen. It bursts into a spiky, 3-dimensional star-like object. From this object grows more structures, which act like the foundations of a building. We see different angles of the growing structures, which eventually form what appears to be an enclosed box. As the structures close themselves off, we zoom out to see that the "王" logo is the result. A yellow flash of light blinds the screen, revealing the star, line backdrop, and text from the previous logo, which glow.

FX/SFX: Same as above.

Music/Sounds: A choir.

5th Logo (2019?-)
