Continental Film
WetpaintLogo1993
Background:
Continental Film is one of the Croatia's largest film and home video distributors, established in 1991. They have been known for distributing films and programs from Disney, as well as Columbia-Tristar and BBC Enterprises.
Note: Logos described on this page were only used on VHS tapes. DVDs distributed by this company have only studio logos (e.g. Walt Disney Home Entertainment on Disney DVDs).
1st Logo (Late 1990s-Early 2000s)
(Logo can be seen after the warning screen, at 0:14-0:25)
Logo: On a space background, we see two searchlights and a purple panel on the bottom of the screen. After a second the golden 3D letters, one by one, start to drop to the rectangular panel. During the formation of the logo searchlights are also moving. After all letters have been dropped, forming the words "CONTINENTAL FILM" in a serif-font, a small "video" in a cursive font flies towards the panel. Once formation has been finished, the logo moves to the 2D-view position and searchlights stop moving once they come to position where they have been at the beginning.
Technique: Solid-quality CGI animation.
Music/Sounds: A calm orchestral fanfare.
Availability: Appears on old PAL tapes at the time, such as the 1998 release of George in the Jungle and the 2001 release of Peter Pan.
2nd Logo (Early-to-mid 2000's)
(Logo can be seen after the warning screen, at 0:20-0:36)
Logo: On a space background, a filmstrip moves from the bottom-right to the top-left of the screen. On the filmstrip, we see the golden letters "CONTINENTAL FILM", written in a gold-colored serif font, which later separates from the filmstrip letter by letter. As this happens, a film reel flies from the top-right to the top-left of the screen, while a director's slate moves from left to right with its top half dropping midpoint. After the filmstrip moves away, the letters "CONTINENTAL FILM" appear and rearrange into place while a purple rectangle flies from the top of the screen to the center, sitting behind the text. Lastly, the logo fades out.
Technique: Even better CGI than the previous logo. Ironically though, the formed logo is in 2D, and not in 3D.
Music/Sounds: A calm synth tune (similar to Filmreel bumpers from U.S. Disney tapes), followed by a quiet bang after the words "Continental Film" and the purple rectangular box connect.
Availability: Appears on old PAL tapes at the time, including Disney's Toy Story 2.
