Desert Rat Productions is the vanity production company for works produced by David Spade.

1st Logo (2000)

Nicknames: "Desert Rat 1", "Peace Sign Rat", "Lost Rat"

Logo:

In front of a desert background (complete with cacti, mountains, and an animal skull), we see a smiling rat with a tuft of blonde hair wearing cutoff jeans and a sleeveless white T-shirt. He's holding a beverage and giving the peace sign. To the left of him, we see the words:

DESERT RAT

in a stylized font.

FX/SFX:

None.

Music/Sounds:

None.

Availability:

Extinct; as close to an urban legend as one can get. Was only seen at the end of Sammy(2000), Spade's animated sitcom that aired exactly twice on NBC in August of 2000.

Editor's Note:

This logo - along with its parent series - was considered to be lost media for over two decades.[1] On May 24th, 2021, the pilot episode was posted to YouTube after user Matt (who was also responsible for the re-discovery of Nickelodeon's The Electric Piper (2003)) contacted one of the crew members about the existence of the series. [2] The failure of another NBC animated sitcom commissioned at the time, God, The Devil, and Bob(2000), resulted in NBC reconsidering their approach to producing animated television shows, effectively leaving Sammy in limbo. Although 13 episodes of Sammy were produced, only the first two were aired due to contractual obligations. [3]

2nd Logo (2019-2020)

Nicknames: "Desert Rat 2", "Falling Rat"

Logo: TBD

FX/SFX:

The rat falling, it's cup rolling around on the ground, the appearance of the letters.

Music/Sounds:

The final notes of the credits theme for "Lights Out with David Spade"

Availability: Can be seen at the end of "Lights Out with David Spade" on Comedy Central. Unfortunately, after being put on hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Comedy Central voiced their decision to not renew the series. According to a press release, the network is not ruling out selling the program to another network, so it's possible that this will be seen again on television soon.
