Digital Video Compression Center

Background

Digital Video Compression Center (DVCC, legally Digital Video Compression Corporation) was a DVD transfer company, founded in 1996 as a subsidiary of Panasonic, and acquired by Deluxe Digital Studios on August 10, 2004. Around September of the same year, Deluxe put DVCC's website domain up for auction, later to shut the company down after a few months.

1st Logo (March 25, 1997-2002)

Visuals: On a black background is a dark lime green rectangle with the cut-out call letters "dvcc". Above the logo is "DVD Production Services By:", and below it is "Digital Video Compression Center", "Universal City, California", and, in a smaller size, the URL "http://www.dvcc.com", stacked on top of each other, respectively.

Variant: On the earliest DVDs with this logo, the URL is missing. This variant only appears on the original releases of Beethoven, The Paper, GoldenEye, The Land Before Time, The Wizard of Oz, and The Usual Suspects. It also appeared on the 1999 release of Four Weddings and a Funeral.

It can be seen on DVD releases from Universal (1997-mid 2001), 20th Century Fox (1998-mid 2001), and MGM (1998-2001).
This logo also appeared on PolyGram Video DVDs, HBO Video releases, and the New Line Home Video release of The Player.
It even appeared on some MPI Home Video releases, such as The Beatles: Help!.
On DreamWorks Home Entertainment releases, it appears on Small Time Crooks, Galaxy Quest and Almost Famous (all rare cases since DreamWorks DVDs don't use an authoring logo).
It appeared on the Warner Home Video/BBC Video DVD release of Walking With Dinosaurs (another rare case since Warner Home Video DVDs have no authoring logo).

2nd Logo (2001-2004)

Visuals: On a black background, the camera pans down to a metallic green plate right as a blue laser starts to cut into it. As the laser takes up the screen, it then cuts to the plate floating over a mass of light, rotating as the laser finishes cutting out the "v" (the "d" is already completed), letting the leftover material fall into the void. It then fades to having a "c" completed, and the laser cutting out a 2nd "c", having its material fall as well, and fully forming the "dvcc" logo from before. The camera then fades to a shot of the logo zooming out and positioning itself over the light, letting the rays illuminate the letters as "Digital Video Compression Center" fades in below. The logo and text continue to emit light rays and the plate shines until the logo fades out.

Audio: A buzzing sound followed by a tense rhythmic tune.

Availability:

This is known to appear on 20th Century Fox, Universal, and MGM DVDs from late 2001 to mid-to-late 2004.
It also appears on some Artisan Entertainment and HBO Video releases, such as the 2003 Extreme Edition DVD of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and all four I Spy DVD releases.
