Background

Dnevnik (Cyrillic: Дневник; English for "Journal") is the long-running flagship news program of the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).

1st Intro (August 23, 1958-December 30, 1967)


Visuals: On a space-like background, there is a model globe that spins around. Two ribbons appear, the first ribbon has the words "JRT" and the second has "TV Dnevik". Both letters turn large.

Variant: Around 1956, the intro was redone with the globe now being in cel animation.

Technique: Cel animation mixed with live-action model work.

Audio: A twilight jingle that turns into a triumphant fanfare.

2nd Intro (December 31, 1967-November 8, 1977)


Visuals: On a sky-like background, there is a globe spinning around. On the top of the globe, the word "JRT" appears, followed by the words "TV Dnevik" as the globe continues spinning.

Variants:

  • Around 1972, the word "JRT" is replaced by "RTB" as local versions began appearing on Yugoslav airwaves.
  • When the program reached its 3,264th and 4,988th editions on November 29, 1964 and November 6, 1974 respectively, both numbers appears on the bottom left.
  • When the program reached its 5,000th edition on November 19, 1974, the word 5000 appears in the middle of the globe.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A triumphant and calm fanfare.

3rd Intro (November 9, 1977-May 23, 1979)


Visuals: On a dark marble background, there is the RTB symbol as it zooms out with multiple copies of a 2D globe diagram. As the diagrams come together, a giant circle is formed with the number of the edition (1, 2, or 3) and the words "TV DNEVIK" on the bottom.

Variant From 1978 to 1979, the animation is done on a different background withe the RTB logo now being placed on top and the number of the edition placed in the middle.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A triumphant fanfare.

4th Intro (May 24, 1979-September 27, 1992)


Visuals: On a navy blue background, there are multiple dots that form the map of the earth. After that, a globe spins around as the map disappears while the word "Дневник" forms on the bottom of the screen. After the globe is placed to the right, the RTB symbol appears on the top left corner, while the number of the edition (1, 2 or 3) appears on the bottom after the Dnevnik symbol.

Variant: A variant with Latin lettering also exists.

Technique: A mix of analog computer animation and model work by Nenad Čonkić, Petar Putniković and Sava Aćin.

Audio: An epic electronic synth theme composed and performed by Zoran Simjanović.

5th Intro (September 28, 1992-1996)


Visuals: There is a model sphere-like clock with a globe in the middle (with the colors of the Serbian flag) that stands on a teal background as it slowly ticks and spins which transitions to multiple shots of it from different angles. After that, the RTS logo is seen on a gold knob of the clock. Another shot is shown before the clock stops and zooms out. The word "Дневник" appears with the number of the edition (1, 2 or 3) appearing on the left.

Audio: A gentle orchestrated theme with some ticking noises.

6th Intro (1996-June 21, 1998)


Visuals: On a foggy background, a golden knight appears standing on a stool, holding a sphere. After the sphere shines, it turns into a golden globe that spins around. The globe is later placed on the left while three lights representing the flag of Serbia appear, with the white one revealing the words "Дневник" and the number of the edition (1, 2 or 3).

Technique: CGI animation by Milan-Peca Nikolić at Revision Consulting.

Audio: A triumphant fanfare with some drum noises.

7th Intro (June 22, 1998-October 4, 2000)


Visuals: On a foggy blue background, the lights representing the Serbian flag traverse for a bit before the iconic dots appear one-by-one forming the map of Earth. After that, the map forms into a globe while the lights from before travel toward the bottom as the word "Дневник" appears and the number of the edition appears on the right of the wordmark.

Audio: A rock and electronic rendition of the 1979 theme.

8th Intro (October 5, 2000-December 27, 2001)


Visuals: On a blue background, there is a black hole with some rings around it with the time the program is supposed to start appearing. The hole fades as it reveals a globe. The globe later shines for a bit while the word "Дневник" appears. After that, the word "Дневник" appears again with the RTS logo on the right.

Technique: A mix of CGI and digital traditional animation.

Audio: A gentle theme with notes from the first bars of the 1979 theme.

9th Intro (December 28, 2001-December 2003)


Visuals: There is a blue cube with the Earth's continents placed in it as it spins around until it stops at the map of Western Europe, where Serbia is situated. The cube transitions into a red one with a blue triangle placed on top as the cube reveals the number representing the program's edition (1, 2 or 3). The letter then shines as it turns into white while the cube stops and the words "Дневник" appear with the words "Радио-телевизија Србије" appearing at the bottom on blue background.

Audio: An epic orchestrated theme.

10th Intro (December 2003-May 4, 2010)


Visuals: On the inside of a globe, there is a small white sphere surrounded by two giant rings, as it transitions into multiple shots of it from different angles surrounded by two horizontal bars as the squares form the program's title. After that, the word "Дневник" appears with a blue square on the right with a yellow letter representing the edition (1, 2 or 3).

Technique: A mix of CGI and digital traditional animation by Kompani.

Audio: A gentle orchestrated theme.

11th Intro (May 5, 2010-January 28, 2022)


Visuals: There are the dots from the 1979 intro appearing one by one as they zoom out forming the map of Earth with a colored dot (either red, blue or magenta) appearing to represent present-day Serbia. After the map is formed, a globe appears as the whole map disintegrates into it. The words "Дневник" appear as they travel across the globe before being placed on the right alongside a dot representing the edition (blue for the first edition, red for the second and magenta for the third). The globe moves to the right as it stops.

12th Intro (January 29, 2022-)


Visuals: There are two streams of light that appear as they move from bulb to bulb as they light up the globe via multiple shots and different angles. After all of the red lights are turned on, a shot of the globe appears with a square with the word "Дневник" appearing on the bottom and a number representing the edition (1, 2 or 3) appearing alongside it.
