Background

Astro AEC (abbreviation for Asian Entertainment Channel) is a 24-hour in house Mandarin-language television channel in Malaysia, exclusive to the Astro satellite provider. It was launched on September 1, 1997. The channel broadcasts local productions in additions to productions from Singapore, Taiwan, and mainland China.

1st (known) ID (2001-September 28, 2003)

The last few seconds of the ident, as shown on a promo aired on the channel on December 2002.

Visuals: The only available footage of the ident online is the last few seconds of it, but here are the known visuals of the ident: As with Ria and SuperSport's idents, the ident takes place on a background with a giant thick ring tinted in a dark color, a group of circles, and two translucent white rings, which all rotate in the background. In this case, the objects and the background are tinted light green. It's also possible that the screen passes through a few rings, and some rings would fly to the left of the screen and spin rapidly to form the "AEC" logo, with two light green curves surrounding it. As the logo forms, it emits a few translucent thick rings which quickly fade. Astro's website URL in white fades in at the bottom right of the screen.

Variant: At the end of promos on the channel, the last few seconds of the ident are used.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Possibly a rendition of the Astro jingle from the time.

Audio Variant: On promos, it's just the ending theme of the promo.

2nd (known) ID (September 29, 2003-April 15, 2007)

Visuals: In a red environment, there are two orange Chinese characters doing an activity, before cheering and jumping in the air at the end. Two rectangles then fade in and rotate to form a bigger rectangle, with the top part being scarlet, and the bottom part being orange. The name of the channel, stacked, fades in on the rectangle, which obtains two interior curves.

Variants:

  • The Chinese characters "" and "" along with an exclamation mark run towards the left of the screen. They are then shown running far from the screen towards the right. When they come near the screen again, they settle to spell "加油!", and several clones of the Chinese characters come in and cheer as they jump in the air. The logo formation is then shown.
  • The Chinese character "" is shown snoring. "" then walks in, spelling "早安", while telling the other character to wake up. "" then yawns and cheers and jumps in the air along with "". The logo formation is then shown.
  • The Chinese character "" is shown walking sadly until it sees a beating heart symbol bouncing in. It then cuddles with the heart before cheering and jumping in the air along with it. The logo formation is then shown.
  • There's also a variant where the letters "O" and "k" are shown looking around while several question marks surround them. It's currently unknown what other visuals are present in this variant, but it's highly likely that the logo formation is shown.
  • An orange bar may appear under the logo with a rectangle with three white dots on the left of it, indicating that a program with available subtitles is about to begin.
  • Breakbumpers:
    • Pre-commercials: The animation of the logo is played in reverse over either of these scenarios:
      • The characters of the text "加油!" running rightwards far from the screen.
      • The Chinese character "" is shown feeling sad while swinging. The heart then jumps in from the left of the screen and settles behind the Chinese character, which notices it and feels relaxed. Both the heart and the Chinese character swing further.
    • Post-commercials: The animation of the logo is played normally over either of these scenarios:
      • The characters of the text "加油!" running leftwards near the screen.
      • Same as before.

Technique: CGI produced by Sizzle Video, an Australian motion graphics and media production company.

Audio: A guitar and wooden block tune, accompanied by the Chinese characters' high-pitched voices throughout, along with their cheering. Then, there's a rendition of the channel's five-note jingle from the time. There may be a male voiceover saying "您正在观赏的是 Astro AEC."

Audio Variant: The breakbumpers have just the first six notes of the tune, along with the rendition of the Astro jingle from the time.

3rd (known) ID (April 16, 2007-January 2008)

Visuals: Against a scarlet background with rotating maroon rings, a flash appears at the center of the screen and forms a curved line, which proceeds to transform into a 3D version of the logo from before. "AEC" emits light for a brief time, and the logo shines.

Variant: An orange bar may appear under the logo with "直播" on it, indicating that a live program is about to begin.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A conga tune accompanied by swooshing and glitter sounds.
