Background
Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation (Turkish: Bayrak Radyo Televizyon Kurumu; BRT), is the official radio and television broadcasting corporation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It was established on 25 December 1963 by Turkish Cypriots, with beginnings as a homemade radio station with a limited radius. It launched a television station in 1976, originally broadcasting in black-and-white and eventually began transmitting in color starting in 1979. BRT operates the channels BRT 1 for Turkish-language programs and BRT 2 for English-language programs.
The Republic of Cyprus regards BRT as a pirate broadcaster.
